NVIDIA CEO shows off mystery tablet, makes zero statements about mystery tablet
You think maybe the cats at NVIDIA are a little hot to trot on the tablet concept? Not only did Mike Rayfield (the company's general manager of its mobile division) spout off on a "3G capable touchpad" a few months ago, but CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has been spotted in Dubai with some seriously radical looking hardware. When we hit a post on Huang and his love for all things Apple earlier today, we somehow missed a pic of the CEO hanging tough with that handsome slab you see up above. We're not going to speculate on what it all means, but from the looks of things, NVIDIA is trying to drum up hype around the concept of a Tegra-powered handheld that's just a bit more sizable than your standard PMP. Of course, if you were hoping for more than a tease (like, you know, a partnership announcement or something), you can just keep on waiting.

The "WASSUP U GOT A PROBLEM?" look is hilarious. It is also rather sad how deeply it reflects the NVIDIA's interactions with other companies right now.
Looks like he dropped it on the table and went
WE GOT A TABLET, WHAT NOW?!
...and it works. I want specs dammit.
You know, with an extra logo and a chrome rim, that could be a deadringer for some of the Apple tablet photoshop ideas hanging around out there.
Now what?
Now we let "pen computing" fail again.
It looks nice. Specs?
Also, has he been working out or something?
Looks better that the photos I've seen of him.
To be fair... "Pen Computing" failed before because of how horribly inaccurate old touch screens were, the lack of multi-touch support, and horrible handwriting recognition. But with new technologies like 10 point multi-touch (think gestures kinda like in minority report not to mention it makes virtual keyboards way more viable), very accurate touch screens, and handwriting recognition software that's actually correct more often than it's wrong, tablets are substantially more viable, especially when promoted as media centric devices for use with services like itunes or zune store, and web browsing.
what you got, bitch???
It's his friendly way of saying "MORE WATER, BITCH" and "WANNA START A FIGHT, TABLE, HUH?" at the same time.
Big whoop, ya wanna fight about it?!
Say "Apple" again I dare you to!!! I'll smack you with this tablet if you even fix yo lips to say "Apple."
PAUL OTELLINI, YOU WANNA PIECE OF THIS? BRING IT ON BITCH!!
Pen computing reminds of of how many times over many many years (decade?) the PDA concept failed untill Palm Pilot got it right in the mid 1990's.
You pen hating bufoons are seriously a downer. No one is forcing you to get a tablet, so let the others who don't loathe pen computing enjoy just a moment of joy. There is enough room in the world for keyboards and stylii... so get a f*cking grip... not everyone wants to be like you.
Jesus...
I like to sketch and do Midi on my tablet, and I don't want to do that with a Keyboard.
"DO WE HAVE A PROBLEM"?!?!?!??!
Is it just me or does it look like there's a webcam on it too?
Originally we were gonna make it this big, but our focus groups didn't support that decision.
Judging by the coloured ring of light around the button at what I assume is the bottom of the screen, it doesn't look like an Apple. I've seen something similar on another device recently, and I'm struggling to remember who made it.
Can everybody at engadget please tell Josh to stop posting anything until he finished the full Hands On with the HD2?
I mean this in the kindest way possible, but that guy looks like a douche. I still like NVIDIA though.
"Here's your mother******* Apple tablet!!! The Crunchpad you're looking for is over there in that room marked LOSERS."
Seriously, NVIDIA needs to settle down.
Hey if you got it flaunt it. It'll be that much more amusing if they ever crash and burn, though I cant say I hope it happens.
Maybe a suit and tie would make him look more legit.
I know this is a serious story and all, but I think this calls for a caption contest.
Actually he's pretty cool, gave a good speech at my school's commencement, don't remember the main points, because well it was a commencement and so I was stuck there for hours, but he's not a bad guy.
Is it me, or most of the CEOs of huge companies are Asian? o_O
a) That guy looks like he's wanting to start a fight.
b) I lifted my head up to try to look at what was on the tablet. Does that make me an idiot?
yes
Well it certainly makes you look like one.
Yes.
(I totally just didn't scroll back up and do the same.)
He's playing ratatouille on there btw.
Its ratatouille!
It's RATATOUILLE. Linguini is chatting with Remy in the fridge in Gusteau's kitchen.
Yes I've seen the movie too many times. And now, just from glimpsing the faded image on this tablet, I need to go watch it again.
Didn't Steve Jobs say that Ratatouille was one of his favorite movies?
It was during a Macworld, if I remember correctly.
Of course Steve Jobs said publicly he liked Ratatouille!! He's only Disney's largest shareholder...
here is the tablet screen: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/6190/nvidiatabletjentablet.jpg
Thank god it's not a glossy screen!
> He's playing ratatouille on there btw.
I'm seriously impressed!
its ratatouille playing on the device, when the main guy is in the fridge with all the cheese, look closely!!
looks stylistically like one of those Samsung TV's with the red light / circle on the front.
I still wonder about this new tablet craze, tablets.... well they are just ergonomically bad
looks stylistically like my 360 with the red light / circle on the front.
NOT Apple Tablet, Jonathan Ive would never put red ring around the button.
hero ...rara, hero rara!
I wonder what that thing could be... I hope the fabled tablet is reasonably priced, I'd like to have one around the house.
Do you speaketh chineese?!
Photo Caption: WHADOYATHINKIMINIDIOT!?
Looks like my HP TC1100. Still going strong after 5 year service!
This photo deserves better captions then the ones posted.
engadget caption contest
Dere UR tablet, now U buy gold, KK?
That made me roar.
I comments as soon as the article came out asking about tablet..
Wonder if its the new apple tablet
The "Tapllet" ?
Do you understand the words that are comin out of my mouth!?
No, not over the penis
I don't think that's a tablet. I think it's just another touch phone and Jen-Hsun is a really really little guy.
LOL
your avatar + your comment = we have a winner
I like how the Nvidia guy throws the tablet on the table and challenges everybody in the room to a fight.
I suggest captioning the image
"Wanna see my tablet?
It's THIS Big!"
no. thats not funny.
stop making suggestions.
come on guys, that just a mirror
I bet he hates trying to maximize his windows on the MACs. We (windows) do it with a double click, or a drag and snap in Win 7.
You obviously don't get it. You don't NEED to maximize in OS X. You don't NEED to.
(repeat that to yourself a few dozen times when you try to sleep at night, it worked for me)
That's because you can't maximize, you know you want to, you just can't do it with a double click.
drag and snap doesnt maximize
@sean it does when you snap to the top.
If it weren't for the three dots at the top and the red led on the bottom I would think it was the Apple tablet, but now I hope it is a tegra/android tablet with 1080p capabilities.
nevermind on the three dots I see one is a webcam one is a mic and idk what the 3rd one is...
I heard this guy actually delivers baby's with the same demeanor in the hospital. True story
that's just a screen he took off from an HP laptop. I can take off my HP laptop's screen and it'll look exactly the same.
Go ahead and take off the screen from your laptop. See if it plays a movie with just a screen...
With all that apple love coming out of him, this could well be some kinda apple tablet prototype....1080p and some sort of decent gaming is possible on a high end tegra so its really interesting:)
But can Mac OS run on a embedded processor as the tegra uses an ARM11 cpu??
The real OSX, the one on MacBooks? No. The sort-of OSX like on iPhones and iPod Touches, well clearly the answer to that is YES.
Is this an Apple tablet.
Clearly not. Its too big to make any sense to anybody for one thing. Battery life would be horrid unless it were really thick, its almost certainly impossible to hold with one hand for any length of time, etc etc.
Its almost certainly some junky Chinese knockoff design that you wouldn't pay 1 cent for. I doubt highly its some magical new OS and touchscreen and carefully balanced UI, processor, battery life, etc like you would expect from Apple. Nvidia doesn't have a clue how to design something like this (see Smartbook demoes).
If anyone was wondering the tablet is playing Ratatouille
No, no one was wondering because several people said it before you did. Try reading a couple comments before posting some time.
Looking at his gestures, in that pic he's saying "Really, my schlong is this big..."
Oh, man... Water bottle, tablet... and the dude's like, "WHAT?!"
Someone, is about to get sarrrv'd.
Screw the mystery tablet. I say Engadget sets up a "Caption Contest," and shows the top ten. This pic is just too epic to let this pass by.
"I have another one of these up my ass. What now bitch?"
Dude, Huang has been working out.
Nice tablet... looks like it'll sport one of the more powerful Tegras (600 or 650) and have a built-in webcam for video chat.
I can seriously say me and that guy would get in a fist fight within five minutes...
It looks like a plastic bottle to me. Very mysterious.
I was wondering why no one has put two and two together.... CEO talks about how he loves Apple, shows a Tablet (presumably with NVIDIA Tegra inside).... Apple + Tablet.... hasn't everyone been harping on about how they want an Apple Tablet?
Footnote: Personally, I'd rather not see an Apple Tablet... in fact I'd rather Apple didn't exist... but thats a different matter...
I did and i got fairly reasonable answer thats its not:(
This might be M$ Courier too
This is definitely not the Courier. The Courier has two screens that folds up like a book. This is most likely an apple tablet.
Now I guess I can finally break my silence.
Please refer to whos placed one of the largest orders for the upcoming 1.3 ghz snapdragon chip. You will understand what I am saying then..fanboys
At least he wore an extra small T. Makes him look even more menacing..
Jen-Hsun Huang to Intel: "Bring it bitch!"
Erm... Guys, isnt that just a Modbook Pro? The newest modbook by axiotron?
not even close. this thing is way slimmer and of course it has the one big button.
No, it's not the modbook pro. Go look that up and see for yourself.
I'm with you on this one!!
That's one Big iPod Touch!
GET THIS TO MARKET FAST!!! AND IN THE USA I WTB NOW!!!
engadget should do a caption contest for the pic.
So if it is the Apple slate, who gets to torture the CEO?
"You want some bitch?"
"Yea i want some, bring it on ATI-wannabe!"
"This Tegra is gonna kick your chinese ass!"
I swear, its this big!
