HTC HD2 ripped to shreds, probably in the name of science
Hello there, HD2. To be honest, it's a bit soon in our relationship to be seeing all your inner workings -- not that we mind. The folks on the xda-developers forums have done the duty of tearing down HTC's impressively skinned Windows Mobile 6.5 device. Not much to glean from the snapshots, but if you do harbor some strange technologically-inclined curiosity and would never consider ripping up the phone yourself, hit up the read link for more pictures.

If you don't shut up about your "vowel phone", i'm gonna come to your house, rip your modem out, sell it on eBay and buy a hero with the money i made.
It's NEVER too soon.
That's what he said.
Oh, by the way, I want to give a shout out to the folks who are left after the ban hammer incident in the last article. X(

Replying to the first comment, just to say...
WHERE'S THE FULL HANDS ON OF THE HD2 JOSH?
Yeah, I know all caps are bad form, but I think it's warranted in this case. The Hands On has been in the engadget featured article cycle for basically a week now, and the link is still to the single paragraph teaser.
It makes me wonder what else something can be ripped into besides shreds. Squares maybe?
Half. You can rip someone in half.
With the appropriate technique, you can be ripped into someone who has an additional hole.
*xda-devs tear the HD2 a new one*
those guts look good...me want WM7 FTW
very neat. I am though interested in the cost of this device. Seeing it's from HTC, it will be $599 retail, $598 contract.
is actually 800usd.
Was that $800 price reported somewhere, because that strikes me as a bit high.
clove.co.uk prices (£439 or £504.85 inc VAT) suggest that the US price should be $650-700 off contract, just based on the pricing history between the two, as it's not a straight up conversion number. Straight up conversion suggests that it would be US $725ish using the non-VAT price.
However, if you look at the HTC Hero, £315 suggests $525ish, but the Hero off contract in the US sells for about $480 (Sprint price).
This has held more or less true for most HTC phones, so unless the carrier decides to screw the model to gouge customers (more than normal), I think the $650-700 is more realistic.
Really liking this device, difficult toss up versus the N900. The lack of large internal storage and 65k only colour screen is making me hesitate..
I don't think the screen is 65k the os is. so if wm7 supports more colors then the screen will be able to support it if im correct.
Eh, it's barely noticable, great contrast, and the colours are still pretty well saturated.

(Sorry, had to do it)
Where's the review? It has been almost a week
The reviewer has obviously gone A.W.O.L with the handset....last seen heading through Tijuana with a false passport and stick on moustache :)
That has to be the best recommendation possible!
They are trying to find a way to write it politely...
To shreds you say...
"Alright, I give up. Whats the catch?" "No catch, tho it is technically in New Jersey..."
Seriously, where's the review!? Dying over here...
There are 9 screws for this.. iPhone has zero..
/Sarcasm
Yup the iPhone is totally... well, yeah.
.......screwed?
*xda-devs puts the screws to the HD2*
Gizmodo docked HTC points for doing a good job skinning WM6.5. I'm not kidding.
It's Giz. What did you expect from the laughing stock of the tech world?
Gizmodo's review was probably the worst case of fanboyism I've ever come across. To summarise, everything about the phone is absolutely perfect but we hate it because it's running WinMo. They didn't even bother to explain why they hated it, just assuming that everyone would agree.
I barely bother visiting Gizmodo any more and its "reviews" like this one that will continue to sink them into obscurity. That and the constant Steve Jobs hagiography.
So I just read the article and HOLY CRAP EDITORS AT GIZMODO GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD; YOUR BLATANT FANBOYISM IS ENOUGH TO MAKE ANYBODY PUKE. How can anybody that's got half a brain read that blog and actually find it interesting. It's not cute it's not funny. Go ahead pick any day you want and take a look at their articles. Over half of them are about Apple and the ones that are about Apple are all praising, not even neutral towards their stance. I know at least one editor over there has got to be reading this: If you continue with this disgusting practice you will continue to see your readership fall even more than it has.
There's a lesson tobe learned here if someone is listening.
hint hint
It's as much anti-winmo sentiment as anything. Their droid review revealed a ton of crappiness, was honest about it, then concluded "best phone other than the iphone". Really, Giz? The next engadget show should do a Really!?! with Topolsky and Block on that review.
Thats one way to get Windows Mobile off of the device!
xda-devs can take the winmo out of a device, but you can't take the winmo out of xda-devs.
Woooo! HotDAMN!
That sir, is what she said.
Yea, but will it blend?
No, the blender will refuse to harm it's idol....
OMG, is that the entire motherboard??? That's so small!!!!!!!!!!! props to SnapDragon development team, high hopes for other competiting SOC companies to design such good chip for everyone to enjoy.
Seeing that Mobo really justifies it's supposed price tag of $800
I want this phone. ENGADGET PLEASE GET ME ONE OF THESE when you get one.. Thank you...
to me last night.
Wow, that is ripped!
hi, good to see my xda thread posting here~ cheers.
btw, im not the guy that dis-assembled this phone lol
"Hey, you want the biggest Alienware Rig for Free?" "Hell yeah!" "Oh, and one side bonus added, you HAVE to run Win95 on it" "aaaahm...." "Yeah, but you´ll get some nice Screensavers too...."
Hopefully somebody will modify the Dragon Android Build to fit on this... the Thought of buying an iPhone instead... scary...
