Apple lets devs bite their nails in real time as iPhone apps navigate approval process
Apple's App Store approval process is one of the great black boxes in the mobile industry, a bizarre place ruled by emotion, erratic logic, and an uneven application of censorship that has driven some developers to the very brink of insanity since the day of iPhone OS 2.0's release. Well, folks, here's the bone just thrown your way from Cupertino: a new dashboard where you can watch closely as your pride and joy makes its way through the bureaucratic assembly line. Before, all you could do was submit, pray, and wait indefinitely for your app to get accepted or rejected, so consider this an almost imperceptible step in the right direction. Next on our list: emulators. You know you want to, Apple.

waiting for review....... in review....... we're sorry, your application must be resubmitted for it was accidentally put into our guest account repository
Pure. Genius. +1
For the love of all that is change that damn avatar mark
I'm sure at least a couple of those statuses will be saying, "Glanced at...denied...Reason? Just 'cause."
that information seems mostly very unhelpful
I wish everyone would get off this kick! However this was done, there would be a bunch of people gripping about how it impacted them. Get over it! Who cares whether some ap developers are unhappy? There is no group of several thousand people who are happy about any process that must approve their work - programmers least of all!
+100... lol'd in real life on that one
Even if you get accepted it would still be hard to get your App to people if you're an independent developer
I wonder how many of the apps in the queue will get a status of "we didn't reject it, we just didn't approve it".
LMFAO!!! iLaughed!
When Google logs in, they are just shown a picture of a middle finger with the text: "Under 'review' "
Oh, so you are saying they are rejected prematurely?
Even if that wasn't clever, I still would've voted your comment up for having the greatest username and picture. You're truly a man among men, I salute you.
Premature rejeculation
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT was FUNNY !!!!
We all know that ATT and Apple are afraid that Google is going to take over the world !!!!
BTW.....My jailbroken/ unlocked 3G[S], version 3.1.2 baseband 05.11.07 RULES !!!! (google it)
Hey Jobs, you got the best product out there BUT.......we stuck it to ya......AGAIN !!!!
FTW and Rage Against The Machine !!!!!
heh heh
I wonder if they made a status code for Awaiting AT&T's Permission
Yah its coded pwipped
Wonder if we can get a screen shot of where the Google Voice app is?
Sent from my Droid
I would have laughed, but then I remembered I'm older than 12.
This is definitely a step in the right direction in terms of Apple's iPhone App Approval System!
Meanwhile you don't need to worry about an approval process on Android since you don't have to host it on the market.
You also don't have to go through the App store on the iPhone if you distribute your app through Cydia
Which is only for people who have broken the iPhone EULA!
Ha ha! I may have to "borrow" that for my Twitter feed.
Any word on the new google navigation app!!????
APPROVED IN 2 DAYS??
I have never seen that before! What is that app? Was Apple paid to get it reviewed so FAST?
Please explain.
Look at the user name, it says Apple. It's an Apple-made app so I guess it gets approved right away.
No, it still took a full 24 hours to be approved. HA!
There's only a certain amount of time before there's an app for watching the app approval process... that will get denied.
Definitely a step in the right direction but still nearly meaningless. It's still just barely better than submitting and guessing. Simply put, once you submit, you already assume it is going to be looked at. It's the time between review, reason for rejection and approval that is a mystery. Something this doesn't help with until after the fact; by which point, it's simply not useful. But I do see that it would help to quickly get the final decision out rather than wait for a personal rejection letter. So at least it will be faster there.
Right direction. Still needs a more meaningful approach as alluded to in the article.
What's this? A complaint? Egads. Even after you got more insight into the App approval process? Amazing.
Oh, of course, Mr. Cow. Anything you want, Mr. Cow.
Do you want video footage of Apple employees using your app and discussing it's intricacies?
Or perhaps a beautifully handwritten letter delivered by Steve himself explaining why you will not be earning any Apple commissions this month?
For F's sakes, talk about looking a gifthorse in the mouth.
Stop. Bitching. Nerds!
LOL, Apple. A widget program on my Moment has had three updates in two days, and they had a fix for an issue a previous update caused in like hours. Until Apple can either get to that level of speed, or actually use their long and random approval process to actually make sure that meaningful, fully tested apps are created the App Store will still be a failure to me.
And I'm sure Apple cares deeply about my opinion while they sleep in their solid gold beds...
Hmm... Sounds like a good basis for a drinking game called "What Crazy Reason Will We Get For Rejecting My App?" You see, every time your app is rejected for something dumb, you take a drink!
If you had followed some of the articles about this in the past you would know better than to claim they practice equality in app approvals. The policies aren't strictly set forth and that's part of the problem. Apps seemingly get rejected on a random basis which makes it extremely difficult for developers to get the app "right" in Apple's eyes.
Will there be a status saying "arbitrarily rejected", "accidentally approved" or "Phil's got ya covered on this one"?
waiting for review..... reviewed.... conditional approval..... we'll yank your sh1t from the app store in about a week.
So they turned a one line text field into a table of 3 lines with dates.
a. the app status states haven't changed (waiting, in review, ready for sale)
b. it will still take at least 2 weeks.
But instead, you now know how much torture you've endured, exactly to the date.
IMO, a worthless change.
Wish they accepted more useful applications than silly ones that don't serve any purpose. For example, this software is fun and will serve many people with memory issues, people that are bound to a wheelchair! These would be an exciting app., jedimindinc.com http://bit.ly/1JZ1YZ
This gadget will be available in stores by December! Watch out for it!
