Although we were too late to verify for ourselves, both
Joystiq and
Scrawl swear up and down that the above three images, each of whom unfortunately lack a higher-res version, all hail from the official Sony Computer Entertainment Europe website, and each showing a feature of the
PlayStation 3's XMB we haven't seen before: some form of Facebook integration, the ability to change gamercard colors, and a new method of photo organization / perusal. None of these would be too surprising or earth-shattering, really, and the juiciest question of them all -- exactly when we might see these additions -- is still a mystery.
exactly when we might SEE these additions...
acording to this rumor it could be the 19th http://n4g.com/ps3/News-426636.aspx
Now you don't see it. Now ya do see it.
And then ya won't see it. Just like every other faddish "social networking" site. Why aren't they rushing to implement MySpace integration?
Yep. They might as well just wait out the stupid Facebook thing too.
Cooolio
Yay, let's all say "zross media bar" together.
Nyce. They're actually doing something better than the XBOX now.
Everything about the XMB has always been better than XBOX
Better? Xbox Live already has Facebook.
YES better. The whole XMB is much faster and sleeker than NXE/Blades.
Rod, better does not = first. Facebook is not really significant, anyway.
its subjective. I hate xmb because everything's too small. I just prefer how nxe feels. I've been playing my ps3 alot more lately though. so many awesome exclusives.
ot: anybody tired of the lame tla's for these firmware updates?
@Gonintendo
too small? Everyone's been complainant the icons are too damn big after the 3.0 update. Personally, I have no problem with NXE, but its definitely less responsive then then the XMB, or even the older Blade. The old Blade wasn't pretty but it got the job done.
But in a head to head comparison in terms of navigation interface (XMB vs NXE), the 360 loses serious points because its ridden with ads.
I like the feel and look of the XMB, simplicity wins, but browsing through some hundreds of music artists or photo albums is a pain in the ass (it's fast though), nice to see that Sony has something in mind to improve the file browser.
To be fair, I have never owned a xbox, but I've played it A LOT at my friends. Still, the interface is not as intuitive as the PS3, but I think its just a matter of getting used to something, I don't really have any negative things to say about either systems since their games are both awesome, although I'm more in love with Fat Princess on the PS3 at the moment.
Dang Sony is just taking everything away from MS first netflix Now facebook and it looks like Cross game chat will be in the next update to MS needs to think something good to justify 50 bucks a year for Gold I may ditch it next year if it doesnt come down.
I doubt it will go down. Especially when there are people with 2 and 3 XBLA accounts, there's too much money to be made.
Besides, we're talking $50 PER YEAR. Not enough to make me drop it. I find myself playing my PS3 more, but not online as much as my 360.
Interesting to note: there's no sparkles in the background wave after the 3.00 update.
intresting note: you can turn the sparkles off now.
Another interesting note: You can turn them off.
I don't think anyone's mentioned this interesting note, but the sparkles can be turned off.
Check the time of posting, happened right after one another..
I know others mentioned you could turn off the sparkles, but here's how, go to theme, and select 'classic'.
I was able to do this as soon as I got the sparkle update, though I have a dynamic theme (the wipeout one, which is free via a europe account) which is totally kickass.
The XMB is slick and beautiful on my TV. I always liked Sony's sense of style. I don't give a rat's ass about Home or cross game chat. I love online multiplayer with 60 competitors, and I like dedicated servers. I have always found the Playstation's support for online games to be excellent, but to each his own.
But seriously, why would anyone want to turn off the sparkles.
Sparkles are awesome.
SPARKLES!
As Teerim said, you can turn off the sparkles if you want to, but I can't understand why anyone would do that ^^ Besides, it IS the 3.0/3.01 firmware (look on the upper right corner and the blured background in the first image).
Maybe they will fix the issues from firmware 3.01 as well. Thats all I care about.
What issues?
How about the way non-highlighted objects in a list disappear after two seconds? Drives me nuts.
I definately believe the picture organization one, it looks alot like the Rachael interface for the new phone.
I DON'T CARE! WHY MUST YOU KEEP REPORTING THIS UNINTERESTING CRAP?
Just to annoy you.
take the trolling down a notch. just cause its not intresting to you doesnt make it not intresting for everyone else.
Poor you...
I AM NOT TROLLING I AM ANGRY!
You're an angry troll. We get it.
Wow... and I thought I had problems...
AnGeRmAnAgEmEnT
Rawr.
Anger management is a joke...
Well, mine was court ordered so that might have something to do with it. Maybe if I had voluntarily paid for it...
@mr_drift
Anger management is nothing to be proud of, I personally know families who suffered financially just because some brat didnlt get what he wanted. It's either to call attention to oneself due to low self esteem or being just plain narcisstic. It is an excuse so as not to have tocontrol ones emotions.
so please, if you have issues, keep them to yourself. /rant
That may not be true, you can't see the sparkles when you select something from the XMB because the background blurs.
Facebook would be cool but I think the music player on XMB needs to be updated. They already updated the photo functionality which works great. I use my ps3 to play music all the time and would love to see a revamp of the player to include a more user friendly interface and look.
agreed! i still wish we had more visualizers and an equalizer. :)
also, we need a playlist for videos too!! i have over 100 movies i'd like to group into lists like LOTR and Star Wars :)
but i do like the looks of these leaks if they be legit :P
I'd settle for the ability to make playlists with network sources. I have an 80GB (with BC!) and I use PS3MS for my movies, TV, and music... kind of a pain to have to copy stuff locally to really do stuff with it.
Oh God, if they just they make the music browser layout similar to that photo browser layout my PS3 will be much closer to perfection.
I agree that the PS3 could easily have a much better Music player. so cuold the PSP. I have no idea why Sony doesn't use their Walkman style system on the PSP or an itunes like interface for the PS3. Why not? Also, internet radio! Instead of having to use my laptop to feed streams, why not add this in?
Sony sells music. Why not sell it on their Playstation Store?
Oh, and while I'm whining, why not give me PlayTV in the states?
But I do love my PS3... best bang for the buck of anything I've ever bought, including my PS2.
Where's the sparkly thing following the waves in the background?
hmmm... I thought this was engadget, not the "I cater to exclusively to asoccer345's every wish, whim, and desire blog."
Color me corrected!
Facebook. Great.
Now make the browser better, add better music controls, and give me better avatars. Oh and pick up the dog crap in the front yard when you're done.
I just want the titles of my movies/games/songs to NOT disappear if I hover over one too long.
Amen brother!
What they need to do is the same for the music browsing. Browsing large libraries via DLNA is brutal, one....line...at...a...time. The photo-tiled display should be applied to the music lists also for heavens sake.
Cool, but hey Sony, how about updating XMB on your other products too!
My Vaio Z could use it
as could my X1
