NVIDIA's Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU makes a Twitter appearance
We'd been hearing that NVIDIA's Fermi chips had been delayed, but they're apparently far enough along for spokesperson Brian Burke to tweet this image of the new Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU running the Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark earlier today. That's certainly one way to hit back at ATI's launch of the fastest graphics card ever, the Radeon HD 5970, but we'd much rather have some hard info to work with. We've pinged NVIDIA, we'll let you know if we hear anything.

This makes me wish I had a desktop :(
Me too. My 8600M GT just isn't cutting it now :(
Actually reminds me of why I don't use desktops anymore.
GeForce 100?
seriously??? I be more impressed if they make it powerful and small!
the way things are going, graphic cards are bigger than the case itself
I don't care if the video card is twice the size of my case. If I can run Crysis 4 at 300 frames per second in 3D why cry about, like, anything? LOL It's not a laptop.
Because he's right. They should be working on making these smaller and have better cooling solutions. The one I have now (9800gx2) is so big, that it barely fits my ginormous case, and, it blocks 4 of my onboard sata ports. It's heavy enough for me to have some concerns about the strain on the pci-e slot. Everything is getting faster and smaller except this.
yo dawg, i heard you like computers, so we put a computer in your computer. . . .
I was just about to make a similar comment. They should start atatching computers to graphics cards now instead of the other way around
Agreed, I don't think this would fit in my current mid-ATX case. My current GTX 260 barely fits as it is! This GPU is a work of wonders from Nvidia; now if only I had a gigantic full ATX case to throw it in. Time to upgrade!
I have a full ATX case and I still don't think it will clear my boot hard drive... I'd have to move it into my array and remove the brackets.
Man, I wish PC gaming was what it once was. I miss this stuff.
sigh, people don't like pacman on a 27 inch screen anymore.
Gosh. You should really pull your head out of sand and look around. There are piles of simple games around. Last gem I have seen was the indie game Aztaka. It's 2D platforming RPG, though for flashy effects they use many capabilities of modern 3D cards. Osmos (also 2D) was also quite nice.
And well, NWN1 still run perfectly fine: whatever it lacks in modern graphics it compensates with full fledged RPG system.
First person shooters are still better on the PC.
I remember those days. Back in the days of the PS1 and PS2 especially.
The console folk had their low res, standard def stuff and we all had beautiful graphics at silky smooth framerates. :)
This card probably sucks more power the my AC when its a 100+ degrees outside, but I still want it.
Just put a duct on the fan and use it as a heater in the winter
I agree this card is huge, but the FPS rock
It would be better if the fan on that card was actually spinning. The black sticker on the centre of the fan is off-centre but not blurred at all, plus there is no blurring of the fan blades where you can see through the gap. Granted teh fan could be running really, really slow and the camera could be very fast at image processing but i'm pretty sure the card in the picture aint running.
Saying that it doesn't mean there is an actual running card elsewhere driving the dx11 benchmark in the background...
The fan is definitely spinning. Check your eyes.
GeForce 395... Imagine.
still waiting for an NVIDIA powered smartphone
They showed a picture because the benchmark was framing like hell :P
In before "that's what she said"...
That thing is a MONSTER!
does it run crysis???
Nothing runs Crysis on all settings maxed out.
It runs *two* Crysis at the same time.
Energy crisis anyone?
Why does anyone trust nVidia anymore?
When was the last in-action shot of a upcoming gpu they were working on real? Doesn't anyone remember GTC?
I'll believe it when it is on newegg.
> I'll believe it when it is on newegg.
But even then I wouldn't believe it: my reality perception going to be boggled by the usual nVidia price tag.
ATI has passed up NVIDIA a while ago in terms of GPU technology and performance.
facepalm.jpg
New architecture = we better STFU before we get to see it benchmarked
And yet, ATI's drivers SUCK BALLS.
Ryan speaks the truth. So many issues since I went back to PC, all because their drivers are so naff.
Well lets hope its good. They've got a lot of catching up to do with the 5970 beast (which btw is an effing FOOT long O_o ). ATI/AMD have been playing the graphics card side of things very very smartly these past few years.
What GeForce 100? Nvidia's numbering of there video Cards are very confusing are they running the numbers backwards now?
I'm guessing the model number software reached it's limit and got reset again.
I believe it's from the new card branding Engadget mentioned in a post not too long ago.
No kidding nvidia is very confusing on the naming..
will this run cstrike in OpenGL better than my RIVA TNT2 card?
That's a tough call man...I'd say maybe wait a few months to see what Voodoo 3D comes up with.
That's no graphics card. It's a space station.
Chewy, Lock in the Auxiliary Power!
Made me almost spit out lemonade. +1'd :)
Nice GPU stand. What are those lego pieces doing on the side?
Rofl only recently has ati passed nvidia. Its always been like this. For so long has it switched back and fourth. For a while ati was 2 generations behind nvidia. Only now has ati suprassed nvidia. We can only hope nvidia will surpass ati the next time around and so forth. That is what bring competition and lower prices. Fan boys from either side can just sit and wait it out to purchase new hardware. As much as I like power, it seems that they do not concentrate on making them more efficient. Look at p4 vs core 2. Much more power and efficient now. From picture looks like 2 8 pins which means its pushing 300 watts.
I think Nvidia is finally starting to feel the heat (about time), white papers and promises aren't cutting it.
I bet if you got one of those, a core i7 uber extreme edition, two nVidia teslas, and a mobo that could handle it, you could probably cure cancer and play crisis at the same time (and black out your neighborhood).
