I mean... the Pixi has NO WIFI, and developers haven't really gotten behind WebOS to make apps.

Sure, you can talk all you want on a Pixi, and it has unlimited data... but, I don't think the Pixi and the iPhone are competitors... The Palm Pre, maybe.... but that's debatable.

I just configured an iPhone that would be good for me... 450 minutes, 1500 texts and the required data. It's $85 a month. I hate talking on the phone anyway... but 450 minutes is still 7.5 hours a month. Plus Rollover minutes and 5000 nights and weekend minutes makes up for it. I wish AT&T had another text plan between the $5 200 texts and $15 1500 texts.. but oh well.

So, now we're looking at $85 for that iPhone vs. $70 for the Palm Pre. That's not much more money for an iPhone. If I controlled my texts, I could get the iPhone down to $75 a month...

Michael Scrip

Comments on

@Michael Scrip

There's no denying that the better deal is on Sprint, by far. The per month/year comparison is huge. Yeah, technically you can get your iPhone bill down to $80/month but you're still held down by limited services. On Sprint, you can have 450 minutes and UNLIMITED EVERYTHING else for $60 per month. And about those minutes....none of those will ever be used when you call another cell phone, no matter the carrier. Sorry, but nothing beats that.

As for comparing the Pixi to the iPhone, yes, duh, there's no comparison but there isn't intended to be. The Pre however....I don't think it's "debatable." In fact, the Pre can do more than the iPhone but to be fair, I think it just comes down to preference of device, OS and carrier.

And finally, Sprint's 3G blows away AT&T's. That's a fact. So, while the iPhone is definitely a great device, I'd rather get a phone like the Pre, which actually lets me do work (multitasking is your friend) but also play. Paying $60 instead of an average of $100 per month, on a better network mind you, is a no brainer.

John

Comments on

Regardless of the specs or hardware settlements made for this phone, I am quite impressed. Just got the Mrs a Pixi and I'll be damned if the thing isn't FASTER than my Palm pre. I don't know why, but the experience is even better on the Pixi. Maybe the lighter screen resolution, but whatever it is, webOS is simply stunning on the Pixi.

JayVe

Comments on

If only it were available on SERO. This phone is competing against the woefully unprepared LG's and Samsung semi-dumbphones of the world. Put a Rumor up against WebOS and there's no comparison. You simply can't compare this phone to the above-$100 crowd. And yes, I believe the people most likely to buy this will be the ones who see it for $25 at Walmart, not the ones going to the Sprint store. This phone will likely speed up when WebOS gets GPU support (which will likely be early next year from what I can garner).

wk2600hz

Comments on

From what I can tell, the slowness is due to some network issue with EVDO not working properly. It'll probably be free within 6 months. The money is in the 2 year contract. Palm can work on it being slow; it seems like every iteration of WebOS my Pre gets a little faster. Palm needs to get as many WebOS devices in as many hands as possible, and Sprint needs to up their head count. So make a decent entry-level smart phone with a keyboard and hope that people come to it. As a Centro replacement, this is a great device. EVERYONE doesn't need Wi Fi. If it weren't for the plan requirement, I'd get this for my 15 yr old for XMas. He has a Centro and loves it.

Freddy.cloud

Comments on

Too bad Amazon only offers upgrades to Verizon and AT&T and not Sprint.....lame deal for exisiting customers.
