Newman's A36HD PMP keeps things slim, out of North America
China's Newman is nothing if not prolific, and it's now introduced yet another new PMP that continues its trend of nondescript designs and limited availability 'round these parts. At just 8mm thick, however, the company's new A36HD device should at least turn a few more heads than the usual fare, and it doesn't look to have cut too many corners to make that happen. That includes a 3-inch, non-touchscreen display, 4GB or 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot for more, support for 720p video output, and support for the usual range of audio / video formats (including FLAC lossless audio), among other basics. Not exactly a reason to go on an importing bender, to be sure -- but if this one just speaks to you for some reason, you can get your order in at the link below.

While I enjoy the new look in general, it's almost information overload here.
Nice PMP by the way. I enjoy the interface, if not the controls. I'm a bit of a squircle fan. :P
Just trying out the new comments but the annoying "first" and trolls should be banned
@3rdsun
They get out-ranked into oblivion! :D
It seems the "first" poster I saw was removed. good job guys
@3rdsun
I liked reading the comments that got lowest ranked. They weren't always trolls, they were sometimes just people with opinions that went against the grain. I think there should be a way to see the lowest ranked comments if you want to see them.
Very true. I've seen a lot of people with rational arguments downranked just because they had differing beliefs.
Notice I said trolls and "first" posters, there was one on this thread but it got removed
@3rdsun
Yeah, bu the thing is the new system automatically deletes comments that get lowest ranked, so while trolls and "first" posters will get deleted, so will anyone else who gets lowest ranked.
@What a surprise
I don't think it deletes lowest ranked comments, they are just hiddedn and you have to click to reveal them.
@matt
That's what I thought, but I have seen comments totally disappear, no clicking, no nothing :(
Newman's??? Since when is a salad dressing company making electronic products?? No wonder they failed.
Newmansown.com
This is a salad dressing company
It was nice until I read "That includes a 3-inch, non-touchscreen display."

Didin't Mean To reply twice >:/
DO NOT WANT!!
Looks like a camera...
I would really like to know how anyone stateside gets ahold of these Chinese devices. I've tried out a fake Chinese iPod nano from eBay, and it had a horrible UI (returned it), so I wonder how these gadgets compare. Why would anyone in the US be interested in these posts if we can't actually get this device? I imagine there are sites that sell devices like this to the US/worldwide; which sites are those?
@mildoath
They ship to worldwide: http://www.ownta.com/wholesale-dropship-electronic-gadgets/portable-mp3-mp4-mp5-players/china-brand-mp4-players/
Cut this crap out engadget! A 3" screen PMP with 4 / 8gb storage is not news, nobody cares, no engadget readers will buy this, partly because it seems to only be available in china and partly because for anyone that owns any kind of modern mobile phone with a memory card slot or a PSP, it's a completely redundant piece of equiptment.
Please engadget, report back when:
A - one of these cheap chinese manufacturers comes out with a PMP with 64gb of storage or more.
or
B - When SD cards have gotten up to a more useful size for these kind of devices.
