It's a funny thing, the
CLIQ. When it was
introduced at a low-key press conference, the world gasped as the flagging handset maker finally made its first really bold move since the RAZR by ushering in its first-ever Android handset. Here we a few months later, and the only Android-based Moto that anyone's talking about is the
Droid. That said, we're confident that a few of you T-Mobile loyalists are sticking to your guns (wouldn't want to get caught up in that whole Verizon / AT&T
scuffle, now would you?), but moreover, we're certain that early CLIQ adopters have quite a bit to say now that the Droid is on the market. Is the CLIQ still living up to the hype? Are you still impressed with what it offers? What recommendations would you have for improving the next-generation? Feel free to spout off below, and hey, don't try to hide any lingering bitterness -- we won't look down on you for it.
Kill BLUR.
They'd be better off putting another name on it rather than Motorola. That company is going out of business. Well, at least the cellphone division is. They know nothing about building cellphones or smartphones. Both the Cliq and Droid are already failing in sales. In a month they'll be giving them away.
Understand what's blur first!
I know what BLUR is. Their custom UI.
And it's extremely busy and annoying. They'd have been better off with stock Android, and that's saying something.
My blur is not busy neither annoying. .. the UI is fast..
I guess everything is a question of age.. I really enjoy blur... my grandfather probably wouldn't
Update the processor to something less...sucky
less blur, more 2.0
Android 2.0 itself needs a UI update. It's all over the place!
NO, S60 is all over the place.
Agreed...WTF moto? Take your fancy blur and make a new gayzr or something...leave Android alone. Also...as far as the actual phone goes...more internal memory and better processor would make this phone much more craveable in my eyes. As it stands now, I'm still not impressed enough with anything to ditch my G1.
I would have them sell it in Canada.
add a keyboard, put in android, put in some good apps, make it look nice
...oh wait
make it a droid but with the CLIQ UI... And more cute than the droid.
And thar u go I can haz it. k thx
i can haz teh kittenz!? D:
I'd make it a blackberry 9700.
but, that would be plagiarism..
On the real? Remove the keyboard and bigger screen, that would make it a forsure hit, it's the keyboard that makes it look disgusting
It needs more processing power, a 3.5" screen and a classier build.
I wholeheartedly concur. I would also add that it should be UMA capable because that is a great boon on the T-Mobile network.
Did you use the phone ? I have one and the processing is good!
Yes, I have T-Mobile. I've used it, but it's nothing like the the Cortex A8 in the DROID.
@ASEVENSEE4 Or the Nexus One's 1GHZ. Oh, yeah, baby. Mm-mmm.
" don't try to hide any lingering bitterness-- we won't look you down for it."
No, but we'd be considered "mean" and Joshua will wield the banhammer.
Sorry, but now we don't have the same liberties we used to have on engadget.
better network, wifi, less of a kiddish look
i was hoping engadget would do this have an none spl phone thankx
First, get rid of MOTOBLUR. It is unnecessary with Android 2.0. Then, give the Cliq masses 2.0. I had my Cliq for 10 days before trading it in for a 9700 because of Moto's lack of committment.
Only buy flagship phones because those are guaranteed to have online support communities like xda.
1) Android 2.0 does not allow you to connect facebook, myspace, orkut and other social networks on your contact list
2) Android 2.0 does not save your screen settings and changing the phone to another blur phone, your screen and setting are automaticly restored.
3) Android 2.0 does not allow you to wipe your phone data neither to locate your phone using a web portal.
The perfect could be ANDROID 2.0 + Blur..
I believe this blur is only the first version.. a lot of features will come soon...
Regards!
actually android 2.0 does allow you to access social networks in your contacts menu
I don't know what the hell orkut is but facebook, myspace, and twitter are supported
Access only facebook, no integration with contact list, no location info about to your friends, annoying and different way to comment photos, comments, etc.
make the screen bigger and add more internal memory at least 8gb
Bigger screen, beefy processor, bettery battery.
Integration of facebook, myspace, twitter, orkut, and other.. management my mobile using web access thru Blur Portal, remove wipe, phone location, friends location, etc..
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY CLIQ...
THIS IS THE FIRST VERSION OF BLUR...
VERY EXCITED FOR THE NEXT RESOURCES..
1. More Watermelon wallpaper.
2. A Toilet Paper attachment.
Give it a better processor so that way this moto didn't blur in with the rest of the android devices...
I think I'd turn it into a cheese sandwich, and then eat it.
Sounds delicious.
can anyone tell me if skyfire can run on this? I love this phone but hate the battery life btw how much is it?
It needs more horsepower. And root.
I'd replace it for Nokia N900...
Make it not exist.
Android Sucks!!! ZuneHD Rulez!!!!
There is in fact, very little that the ZuneHD rules.
Lol. Great comparizon... An mp3 player vs. a phone.
a root-able phone mabye how about u realse those files on the cliq its suppose to be open
I'd love this as a phone, seems to make life easier by integrating everything. Not sure why it's the only device to offer Blur, though.
t-mobile owns it i suspect.
I've had my Cliq for a few weeks now and for the most part I love it. MotoBlur isn't anything too overly exciting for me, I tried it and really didn't like it all that well. Partially due to T-mobile not having 3G coverage in my area? Only time will tell. However, even while on wifi, MotoBlur does bog the phones processing speed down dramatically. Especially if your a heavy user of facebook, myspace, twitter and so forth. So what I did was get rid of most of the widgets and my problem has been cured. The other thing I don't like about the phone is the placement of the power/lock key. While you can set the screen time out to suit most of your needs, I find by limiting the screen time out on one thing, limits it on everything. But this can be fixed. A developer simply needs to make an App for the home screen and once you cliq on it (sorry, just had too), it would shut the screen off. I was particularly worried about the keyboard at first, however, I do think after using it for time, it's actually quite better than the G1. I'm also a fan of the directional pad. I'm finding my screen selections, especially while surfing the web is far greater than that of the G1's roller ball. Now while I'll agree the droid's styling is more attractive that the Cliq, I see that phone as being more of a gimmick than a serious device. Sure, it's a sweet looking phone, but Motorola and Verizon are simply trying to compete with Apple and the iPhone. Rather than focusing on developing new and exciting products. Hence the Cliq with MotoBlur on T-Mobile.
totally agree but as far as processing power goes...
the cliq is pretty much the gimmick phone
I mean motoblur is basically a social networking gimmick
I think you might have got the two confused in that way. I mean you've got the Droid's ARM Cortex A8 compared to an ARM 11 with 500 some megahertz
Plus the droid has Android 2.0 which includes mapping and a lot of integrated soc networks in contacts (not as much as Motoblur though). I give Moto credit for trying with Motoblur but let's be honest.... it's not as nice as HTC's Sense
Iwould make it run windows mobile. Honestly android dosent compel me to want to use it but blur doees.
I you just want to more people to talk about the Clic, just make some iDon't ads targeting the iPhone... oh wait that's the Droid.
Or better yet have an ad where the Cliqs are dropped from futuristic jet bombers in these metal casings... oh wait that's also Droid.
How about an ad where you Blur out the competition... now that might work. But then you'd just get caught up in the whole Verizon-Att thing, so no.
I think its fine the way it is, low key.
