BlackBerry Curve 8530 now putting Verizon through the rounds
Right on schedule, the latest BlackBerry to grace the Verizon's CDMA spectrum, the Curve 8530, is now on sale. A 2.5-inch display, OS 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and yes, WiFi -- take that, Tour. Price is $199.99 on two-year contract, with an added $100 discount if you buy it online. Let's be honest, what else were you gonna spend that money on tonight, hm?

Meh. I'm not interested in buying a BlackBerry phone with a crappy browser.
You could always use Opera or Bolt, which are better than the standard browser at least. It may not have a browser as good as the iPhone, but hey, at least you can choose! ;-)
With so many Blackberries, who really keeps track of them all?
Ugh. I eat Blackberrys for breakfast
Please explain what there is to say UGH about.
Blackberries are delicious.
well i just got my DROID for 108 from vzw so id say i spent my money on that
How did you get ur Droid for 108?
I found a good review of the phone here:

Okay honestly, Engadget, where's the HD2 review?
Where's the Sprint version! I want the Now Network. Now prices. Now Service. Now signal. 4G now! Now!
Well you certainly won't be getting 4G on this...
$99 on line - tempting.
I still say no one does e-mail like Blackberry.
I don't get what everything thinks is so awesome about BB email... Maybe I'm not using it right, but besides push I just don't see the benefits. It doesn't even do folders very well (at least as far as I can tell), nor have I been able to link an IMAP account to it...
works for me in both. update your browser.
Has anyone else noticed how Verizon's new phones say "3G" instead of that cryptic "1XEV" or "EV1X"?
1XEV is not cryptic.
That's a OS 5.0 feature. It's less confusing for the users.
It is if you don't read Engadget.

Hookers and blow. Duh.
We've had these for $28.88 on a 2 Year contract for about a week now at work. Other locations have had them longer.
Last week we had a deal where a 2 year agreement with a BlackBerry would get you a $100 gift card for use anywhere in the store. However, that was last week, so I'd say the best deal for this phone is already over, for quite sometime.
man i shoulda waited for the release of the new os 5.0 blackberries with wifi for verizon... i love my tour that i got on the release date july 12th but its lackin some serious OS components..and when i travel out of the country no wifi is extremely inconvenient ... why wud they do this to meeeee
Sounds like you did that to yourself. No one forced you to buy a device without wifi.
most smart phones even blackberries have had it for a while now.. i figured they would never allow verizon bbs to have wifi... not my fault
Lol, the Storm2 was confirmed to have wi-fi for just about forever. Not to mention other Verizon phones have had wi-fi in the past. You gotta read up before you buy, man.
it was my first bb... i switched from a voyager and thought it was the best thing in the world... i love the phone just it lacks the wifi... i guess ill have to use the 1 on my ipod touch...
You'd probably like the Essex a lot. It's not coming out until around this time next year, but it's basically the Tour with a track-pad instead of the track-ball and it comes with wifi, 2 gigs of onboard memory, OS 5.0, and some other cool stuff. It's more of a feature upgrade than a hardware, but it's looking pretty slick.
ya i heard about it...verizon shoulda released that at first xD....from what i hear its coming sooner than ppl say... alot of review sites have gotten their hands on it already...
I was forced to upgrade in July when my POS Voyager broke for the 4th time (hinge actually came apart) - the Tour's trackball barely works and no wi-fi? I believed at the time Verizon wasn't going to stop crippling their phones any time soon. *sigh* FML. TourDoesn't. DroidDoes.
Best Buy mobile is offering this phone NOW for $49.99 w/o rebates. Also, looks like my local store offering the BOGO sale, something my wife and I can take advantage of when we upgrade Sunday!
Phonearena has a pretty good HD2 review (since Engadget doesn't)

RIM should really cut the BlackBerry line down, I have trouble figuring out which is which and which one is their latest. I'm sure those actually interested in buying one (not me) are equally confused.
You have the Curve, Storm, Tour, Bold and Perl. Not really that complicated...

I'd rather spend it on strippers
How much better is this than the Tour? Other than Wifi what else does this offer over the Tour?
This is actually a lower model, it isn't any better. It runs the old Curve line's screen and camera sensors. It is meant to be a lower entry point model.
The problem is you can get the top of the line for a not-so-significant amount more. So in that sense, I wish they would focus on getting the webkit browser (which they are already working on) implemented to those models more quickly rather than this. But that being said, the original low-pricepoint Pearl is what made their consumer market.
hmmm.. my renewal is coming up soon. I hope verizon doesn't butcher this phone. however, I don't see this phone on their website yet. When does it actually go on sale?
So the dropped the flash and did not up the camera to 3.2 MP? Even the 8900 Curve is better than this!
$99.99 is nice. Monthly cost to use it, not so nice.
