Man, the loot you can uncover when you go snooping around spec pages. That most ambitious of Sony Ericsson projects, the
XPERIA X10, is still
a long way from being released, but already we can narrow down the list of potential US carriers to just one: AT&T. The guys over at
Phandroid were the first to spot the newly added UMTS frequency specs for the phone, and the available 800/850/1900/2100 bands fit only AT&T's
3G network. That's gonna be a bitter pill to swallow if you were looking for something like (or better than) an iPhone, but were put off by the wireless provider. Then again, with pre-order prices for unlocked X10s showing up at $999 in some places, maybe you can just look at our
lukewarm hands-on and convince yourself this phone ain't worth it anyway. Go on, you know denial makes sense.
[Thanks, Berto]
wow
wow
Sweet. X10 on AT&T. Most likely going to be my backup phone. :D
Why would it be your backup phone? It's wholly better than every other device AT&T offers.
I don't think i'll drop my iPhone for the X10. Keep in mind my key word was "think".
I don't think you can actually conclude it's coming to AT&T on just the bands. It could be coming to Rogers, for example. The Sholes/Milestone/Droid was listed in the FCC for 850/1900 HSDPA too.
Too bad Rogers isn't in the States, so I guess its safe to rule that out.
dont forget it could now go to bell or telus as they are HSPA too
True. I don't think that AT&T will carry this phone. Even with their bands listed.
Sony Ericsson just announced it is closing its NA headquarters in NC and moving to Atlanta so it can "be closer to its largest NA customer" AT&T. If it has those bands and coming to NA, then it is a sure bet it is AT&T
Also keep in mind that almost all "unlocked" smartphones sold in the US use AT&T's 3G bands exclusively, so they could just be lining themselves up to sell it unlocked like the last Xperia phone.
Yesssss. although i hate att's service im stuck with them b/c of my dads business. good thing i can finally get some android on att!!!
I don't believe that $999 price tag...no way...
If its unlocked, then that's a pretty common price.
I think the X1 was around $800 unlocked when it came out.
Man, it's just random price. Not the final. Many stores puts 999$ price to unreleased phones.
Sweet vindication.
I'm just sick of all these phones going to AT&T. AT&T's service flat out sucks so why in the world would these moronic companies sign on to AT&T? This makes me sick to my stomach. Although I will say this, even if this phone were headed to Sprint, I'll stick with my Palm Pre.
This is off topic but... how's your pre? Do you see any signs of it slowing down with use?
If you're having any problems with performance on the Pre aside from the occasional hiccup here and there, try webOS doctor-ing it and start fresh!
Maybe it's because they use the same radio technology most of the world uses? Not that it's that difficult to make a CDMA version of a phone... but how many more will you actually sell?
That's cool that AT&T will get it's first Android device. And it is getting a good one. See, AT&T gets the best phones all the time.
Lolololololololololololololllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
he he, yeah, that made me chuckle too...=]
What a piece of shit, AT&T could of at least chose a 2.0 device, good lord I hope it gets updated before release.
It won't.
Seriously, this whole slew of 1.5/1.6 releases after 2.0 is out is lame.
Lame.
You guys forget that Motorola worked a long time with Google to get 2.0 on the Droid. Don't expect it on other handsets until next year. But every Android phone should have 1.6 no matter what. All these 1.5 releases are retarded since 1.5 lacks so many features that 1.6 has.
I would hope 1.5 would lack all the new features of 1.6, because if it didn't then what was the reason for 1.6? :P I kid, I kid. Honestly though, why are 1.5 phones coming out? I have the G1 and it can run 1.6 perfectly. If it can do it, then there is no reason newer phones with better hardware can't.

In the video, the guy says it can be updated to 2.0?
sony! Nooooooooooo! Don't do it!
this looks like such an amazing piece of hardawee. I'm so happy to see Sony ericsson coming through with such an awesome piece of hardware.
And android to boot. Hopefully this will allow ATT to drop the sub standard and aged iPhone.
sony! Nooooooooooo! Don't do it!
I can't believe AT&T would betray their beloved iPhone...
When is the Apple exclusivity due to end?
I wonder if they coincide..
They are not getting this phone.
If I get this phone, can i unlock it and will it work on T-mobile's 3G network?
Yes you can unlock it, but no it does not have the requisite 3G bands to work on T-Mo. Sorry
you need to buy the u.k version which is 1700/2100 according to gsmarena which will work with tmobile 3g.
no if I remember correctly T-Mobile's frequencies are still slightly off from the rest of the world so it probably won't work. Usually if you want T-Mobile's 3G bands you'll have to get a phone specifically made for them aka something they sell
That's not true, UK is receiving a 1700/2100 band X10 you can buy that and use it on T-Mobile 3G
Hey guys, wheres the HD2 review?
They're taking their sweet time so they can come up with a few red herring complaints so they can say it's worse than the iPhone.
Seriously, had enough time to play with it yet? Where's the review?
They have been too busy screwing up the fonts on engadget to work on the HD2 review.
Phonearena does better views anyway, no Fandom

Josh said the review was coming early this week:

oh wow i just got a tilt 2 recently >< (unlocked though)
Did Engadget just acknowledge a phone might be better than the almighty iPhone?
Wow, maybe this update has actually screwed some heads on right over in E.land.
:)
I kind of caught that too. But I just brushed it off. I think it was an accident, lol.
Yep, I just fainted.
