Chinese Dreamcast portable mod may inspire KIRFs, or already is one
You thought the DreamTrooper would be the last portablized Sega Dreamcast mod you'd ever see? Nah. Turns out some folk in China quietly showed off an Oriental take on the mod -- not too dissimilar from the form factor of the GameBoy Advance -- just before the DreamTrooper's debut. Details are thin here, but we're hoping for a built-in optical drive and a decent battery life. If we're lucky, some KIRF makers might pick up this idea and revive the legendary Dreamcast brand, so don't go selling your dusty game collection on eBay just yet. Go ahead and watch some The King of Fighters action after the break. We know the Swirl still captivates your heart.

crazy taxi ... anyone?
Aww man, that was a classic!
Definitely upranked you for this. LOVED me some Crazy Taxi!
Yes, awesome.
And how about some of that Marvel vs. Capcom 2, eh?
Or Jet Set Radio?
Wow that brings back memories of kicking ass in Marvel vs Cap-com.
At that size it really is a blast from the past. Nice screen, but it kinda isn't all too pocktable is it... Anyway at least this KIRF tries hard to be "useful".
Why a 16:9 screen for 4:3 games?
Because those are the only ones being made these days. Tried to buy a digital photo frame lately?
Being made? That doesn't mean you can't scrounge up a screen that doesn't warp the picture.
And no, who the hell would buy a digital photoframe.
You do realize that may digital cameras still have 4:3 screens. Not to mention many GPS units and the ever popular Nintendo DS and its variants. Of course, none of those screens are as big as the one being used in this device, but there are some digital photo frames still being produced that use 4:3 screens. After all, most of the pictures being taken by digital cameras are captured off of a 4:3 sensor and viewed on 4:3 screens.
Not to mention they could simply program it to show up in 4:3 resolution with something along the sides to fill up the screen, and leave the 16:9 aspect to run videos were that possible.
Playing games that are stretched out like that would get distracting. Otherwise I think this is a cool device, even better than the built-into-a-controller version Ben Heck put together.
I miss my sega saturn :'(
Agreed!
I have 2 XD
you know, oriental is not politically correct these days
When talking about objects, "oriental" is appropriate. When talking about people, it's "Asian."
Doh, poor Sega. I miss my Dreamcast/Saturn. I really need to bring those up to school :\
Man give me ad-hoc multi-player and you've got yourself a buyer!
NERDGASM
NICE!!!!!
The funniest thing is that it isn't THAT much bigger than the actual Dreamcast controller!
thats for sure
cool. i too do not understand the 16:9 ness.
I literally just put down shenmue for the night. anyone remember how absolutely horrible the voiceacting is in that game? It is literally the reason I am apprehensive about playing it again.
That is blinding. What a great peice of kit !
Too bad Sega was never able to make a handheld console of this calibre :(, but then again how could I forget the Nomad, what am I saying they did they did, back in da day :P
