OS Xbox Pro casemod build video is mesmerizing
We've certainly seen plenty of hackintoshes in our time, but Will Urbina's OS Xbox Pro is also one of the cleanest casemods we've ever seen. Built so that Will can run Final Cut Pro for his job as a video editor, the machine is based on an EFI-X hackintosh dongle, and inside it sports an 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550s paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT card, 8GB of RAM, an 16GB SSD, and four traditional hard drives: one each to boot Windows 7 and OS X, and two 500GB 7,200rpm drives in a RAID0 array for video editing. Will says his total parts cost was under $1,500 for a system that matches a $4,500 Mac Pro, but that obviously doesn't include the value of his time -- which, judging by the totally captivating build video, should be plenty expensive. Check it below.

this is the most awesome case mod i've ever witnessed... excellent video & music to go with it..
congrads, you've got my vote!
I think i wet myself
@dEUS
I voted for him too.... Finally, a non pointless youtube video.
@dEUS It's freaking blasphemous...
@dEUS Awesome
@dEUS Kirf
@dEUS I find the video and music more intriguing than the mod, but maybe it's just me.
@dEUS
one of the coolest casemods I've ever seen, the video was amazing, obviously put to good use! my vote for sure
Ohhh ohhh ooohh yess, geekgasm.
No vote from me:
This asshole ruined a DEV KIT!!! WHY? Couldn't he have sacrificed a regular XBOX? Or even just bought a case? Why ruin a piece of history? And worst soundtrack ever!
Did noone notice that he did not only install OSX and Windows 7 but also Ubuntu. or does nobody care about little old Linux anymore.
but you still can't get it on LIVE... so whats the point? I already have computers that do this...
Amazing.
@Pillowy Mounds Interesting username, my man.
@Pillowy Mounds It might be a new chocolate bar. /s =]
@Pillowy Mounds
I heart pillowy mounds... +1
@Pillowy Mounds Okay Uncle Phil, how did you escape Ytmnd.
RROD free.
@va jj
Really? Third comment down and you have to use a tired meme?
@va jj Not only that, but it cost 1/3 the price of a comparable Apple machine.
I'll take an RRoD and a replacement unit over a 200% coolness tax any day.
Haha! That is bad-ass! I would buy that. =D
Nice. As a console, the original XBOX rocked.
Nice. For the value of his time bit, I think I speak for a lot of hackintosh-ers/general hardware tinkerers out there when I say that it's more of a fun project than any kind of work.
@MarcusMaximus Dude, learn how to write.
"Could of" doesn't not mean anything.
"Could have" is the correct way.
Think you replied to the wrong comment ;)
Woah, and I just went from Highest ranked to low ranked within 4 seconds... damn that bot is getting fast.
All that, and he put that graphics card in. Shame, could of been awesome.
@(Unverified) Are you kidding? The 9800GT is perfect for a small-form-factor case like his. Anything significantly more powerful would likely have a dual-slot design with a big much heatsink/shroud and output more heat.

Let me see your's!!!!!! I'm waiting
Damn that's cool. Can it still play Halo Combat Evolved?
@daytripper
Yes. This would be beast at Halo: CE. Both operating systems support it too: Halo was originally developed for Macs.... its still a better experience on consoles though.
@daytripper
Yes after you install windows, either as second OS or as a virtual machine
@SolidSnake It was always being developed for both Mac and PC at the same time, it was just unveiled at Macworld first
@EGOvoruhk
Correct. Thanks for pointing that out, dont want to sound like a fanboy....
@(unverified)
No virtual machines needed. Halo runs natively on Macs and PCs. Halo 2 is a whole different story... :(
yeah, never usually watch the whole video but that was especially enthralling for whatever reason. Wish I had the know-how to do something like that
@Streetfights
building a PC is one of the most fun things i have ever done.
i wish i could do a case mod of my own, but the cost of power tools and all the other things i would need (like a basement or garage...), would be too expensive.
@Streetfights
And the tools :) awesome workshop
wow
just wow
and the eminem touch was fantastic.
dude is on par with that ben heck guy as far as im concerned.
bravo
@CarpeD1em500 Not really. Heck is in a different sort of league.
@CarpeD1em500 bro, music was mixed by girl talk. hes like the mikey phelps of mixing, used to be chill/alternative [via album Night Ripper], then 'sold out' and went s0 mainstream [via album Feed The Animals]. still good shit, and hes a technical master, but only mixing top-40 hits = backlash from auth/alt/blog niche + props from mainstream critics.
so, it isnt cool to like girl talk anymore. not trying to sound like an asshat, just want 2 give u a pro tip.
also, can dl 'feed the animals' for free, cause he pulled a radiohead (pay what u want method of album delivery).
let me link u bro:

is the motherboard compatible with osx or is it cuz of that efi x dongle?
@va jj
Probably the EFI-X dongle thing. IMO, doing it manually instead of buying a $135 dongle that could be bricked and is unfixable by everyone except the manufacturer. But it is definitely the easiest way.
Cool. Makes me want to build something :)
@hardluckstories
this is the epitome of geek badass
man i wish i had a garage like that.
@(Unverified)
I thought that every time he pulled out a new tool
Most of those tools are... pretty cheap. Not to be a tool snob or anything, but those Ryobi tools will break after a year of decent use. Be jealous of the space, not the tools. It seemed to be a decent amount of area for a shop.
amazing job. I want to learn to build something now to lol
@kflakes15
go build me a sandwitch!
