Sony Ericsson already working on second version of Xperia Pureness, possibly Xperia Pureness 2?
Electric Pig is reporting that Sony Ericsson's already working on a followup to the Xperia Pureness. The designer of the original handset, Daniel Mauritzson, says that the second version of the Pureness will pack even fewer "features" than its predecessor, to hone in even further on the contrast between the handset and available smartphones. There's also been some murmuring of removing the buttons, apparently -- which makes us wonder if the next Pureness might not just be a four-inch long piece of black plastic we'll only be able to pretend to make calls on. Regardless, it sounds like the next Pureness is only in the very earliest stages of design, so don't get too excited yet -- it'll be a while.

And it'll launch in 2012?
@Matej Bajan
...and maybe you'll be able to read the screen.
if you have a niche product why not go ahead and reduce its potential consumer base even further.
Feels like SE isn't really helping its economic situation by developing niche phones like this.
This is really a horrible phone, buttons are "clacky" and the way the screen displays is dismal for anyone who uses it outside of a Theatre.
It's really not for the average consumer, by no means.
@(Unverified)
The average consumer being one with a brain no matter how small or empty it may be.
The designer of this phone must have some form of demigod-like BS-ing skills to have even convinced Sony Ericsson that it was even a good idea to begin with, let alone twice.
Dear Engadget, your new comment system is horribly broken. Please fix. Thank you!
stop trolling
They should rename the X10, it really doesn't fit in the XPERIA family. Because - judging from the previews - it will actually be a good phone. Unlike, for example, this. Seriously, why should they design another (godawful, fugly and damn expensive) phone with a barely readable monochrome transparent screen as the only "feature"? Any sensible manufacturer would never let such a phone become more than a concept. Whatever...
WTF? Do they not realize that they are hurting financially and that no one wants a P.O.S. phone like this? How are their executives not out of jobs yet?
What is wrong with these people?
The X10 looked like it was going to help SE pick things back up then this moment of madness rears its see through head!?! wtf?
WWWWWTTTTTTTTFFFFFFF?????!!!!!! Somebody tell Daniel Mauritzson to STFU then shoot his arrogant a**! SE is hemorrhaging blood and money they can't afford to release stupid niche phones like these! GOD DAMMIT! An executive shake up and corporate enema is sorely needed for Sony Ericsson.
If there's a pureness 2, doesn't that mean the first isn't all that pure?
Indeed. Think of your shareholders, SE.
Pff. For all the rage, a 5800-style, completely see-through device, or a projector, or SOMETHING interesting could be, well, interesting. I don't think they're completely stupid - they'll have something.
@Bronzus They are that stupid.....why do you think they are closing locations and hemorrhaging money at $3 billion per quarter? Not subsidizing phones with carriers or coming up with a phone that is actually useful?
I don't know...OP does have a point, if they play their cards right (increase screen opaqueness and drop the price) they might just end up with something on their hands. People are willing to sacrifice functionality for form...remember the infamous iPod/Nomad comparison way back when it came out? Guess which one's still sticking around?
Sony needs to get serious. Laying off employees, ill-timed launches, the Satio sales halted, and now feature-less phones.
I appreciate Sony's new efforts, despite its continuous flop phones.
R.I.P my dear SE.
The only way I could see them improving the phone is to have the clear screen slide out from under the keypad. Or to magically have it turn opaque when a button is pressed.
He's obviously a Nokian spy, trying to sabotage Sony-Ericssonnia.
A little of topic but, why does t-mobile have terrible SE phones. I like their phones but it seems to be only the flip phones on t-mobile.
the music icon is practically the same as the one on the iPod/iPhone
Just stop SE.
Just stop.
I think this phone is a cool idea. Yeah, the technology isn't there yet, but clear displays on mobile phones like this could be big in the future because of augmented reality.
Right now, you have apps on iPhone and android that overlay stuff onto the camera display. Instead why not have a clear display like this that you could look through, and the phone would add data on top of the real-world view? It would be like the displays that fighter pilots have.
And you wonder why they need to fire 2000 people.
Let's focus on the volume products first?
wierd phone overall. but i like the transparent screen idea.
We'll have an Xperia X2012 soon. Well done!
Maybe they'll make a version where you can actually see the screen?
c'mon.. kill it already!!
