Razer Imperator gaming mouse ships with adjustable side buttons, disdain for southpaws
Tired of getting shafted, lefties? Never gets old, does it? At any rate, Razer is momentarily stepping away from its ambidextrous ways in order to craft a mouse that fits especially well in the hands of righties. The new Imperator gaming mouse houses the same 3.5G laser sensor that has become common on the outfit's critters of late, but this one includes a smattering of "adjustable side buttons" that can actually slide and lock into place wherever you find them most comfortable. It's up for order now for $79.99 (or €69.99 for those across the pond), and if the gallery below doesn't get you close enough, a demonstration vid is just past the break.

@(Unverified) are you an idiot?
Curse you razer! I'm a southpaw, and the only really good mice for us are razers. I really hope they don't abandon us!
@Groovetini
Funny, I was just about to ask how many lefties actually use a left-handed setup, but there you go. I'm a true lefty as well, but I cannot wield a mouse with my left hand to save my life.
@Groovetini Like Jorvay, I'm 100% Lefty but using the mouse in the left hand is hard. Same with trying to play the guitar "left-handed". The more-frequently used keys are on the left side of the keyboard anyway.
Many years ago, I used the mouse in my left hand. The desks were set up for right handed mice. The mice were set up to be right handed. People would always move the mice to the right hand side. I eventually learned to use the mouse with my right hand.
Like you folk, I'm a lefty that uses a right handed mouse. I do it that way, because society forced it upon me.
im digging the braided cloth cord. wish my Lechesis had that.
@kojo87 Those braided cloth cords wind up sucking when the cloth starts bunching and wires start poking through the mesh.
@Onijin my Razer Carcharias headset has a braided cord and i've had no problems. its very tightly knit.
Why isnt it wireless?
@Hydra high end gaming mice are wired. hardcore PC gamers don't want lag. and this is most likely being connected to a desktop which means the mouse isn't going anywhere anyway.
@Hydra
what @kojo87 said, plus last thing I want to worry about is the battery dying in the middle of a fps game.
@Hydra although razor do make them its called the mamba and its pretty sweet, for £100 ish.
It is pretty sweet, and for those worrying about a dead battery, a) it had LED indicators b) it takes about two seconds to plug it in hard-wired.
I'm actually trying to learn to use my left hand more, writing, using the mouse etc. etc. I'm weird like that. Also this has nothing to do with this post.
I'm a leftie, but I've always used a mouse with my right hand. In fact, I thought that was the only way to use a mouse (like with a violin) until just now.
@Chris G I have always used my right hand for the mouse, even though I am left-handed. It is so much easier to find mice :)
Looks exactly like a logitech vx.
Aw. Why can't Razer even make a budget gaming mouse ($30-$50) for lefties? It's not too much to ask, really. They seem to be spitting out mice at a regular rate now.
The salmosa is ambidextrous and I occasionally see it up on woot.com for around $20.
Theoretically lefties could sue for discrimination, and have the supreme court set a ruling.
Or the EU commission if you are euro, I bet the euros actually might do it.
The US doing it is less likely (even though the president is lefty), but it is possible.
This is the equivalent of suggesting that people who don't have legs sue clothing stores for selling pants.
@Uncontrol It would be like suing Nike for not making running shoes big enough or small enough for your feet.
It would be like ignoring a large part of the population and locking them out, I'm not sure of the word for that, perhaps you can think of it?
It is discriminatory, but it's discrimination that is allowed by companies, there's just a point where there's a line drawn, and that line is drawn by lawmakers and precedents set.
For instance in many countries/states restaurants must by law be accessible to wheelchairs, now how is that so much different? It's a private place, offering a public service, and you could just as easily scoff at that law. but you would not if you were in a wheelchair probably, but you might if you run a restaurant and need to spend money on making a ramp.
Is there a trade in program where I can trade in my Deathadder in for one of these?
My God, Razer has been knocking it outta the park recently.
Wait, how bout a keyboard that doesnt cost an arm and a half?
I have yet to own a Razer product that lived up to its namesake - let alone any other company's namesake. Barracuda headset - trash, broke through normal usage in just months, joints made of cheap die cast metal. Lachesis mouse - broken design, cursor jumps all over the screen even if you just leave the mouse sitting still, Razer blames gamers' twitchy hands not being used to 4000 DPI laser....seriously? No fix ever came for that junk. Lycosa keyboard - backlight so dim you HAVE to be in the dark to read the keys, solve one problem by creating a new one, you can no longer look at your keyboard in broad daylight. Which would be fine, if the keys weren't so smooth that you can't feel the F and J keys...nevermind the fact that the nubs on those keys quickly wore down like a cheap laptop and now shine light through. All of this would be "acceptable" if Razer stood behind their products but their customer service is almost as bad as their return policies.
Those were all of 2008's great new Razer releases, enough to convince me that Razer is just a marketing machine with puppet "pro gamers" pushing their horrible products. It seems to me with each new release of a Razer mouse, they create a new fire that they're putting out with it. This time it's the "autocorrect" features of the mouse...it's always something, and it's always bullshit.
Stick to the mice from Razer.
I have owned every Razer mouse since they went USB and besides the Lachesis (which WAS fixed with firmware updates, btw) every single one has been a dream. Can't beat the DeathAdder/Mamba and the Naga has become required equipment for MMOs for me.
@Rocky: There were numerous updates that Razer released and said would fix the mouse jumping issue on the Lachesis. If you take a look at the update that "fixed" it last, that was over a year after the mouse released. In my case, and many others', that update still did not fix the issue. We were then told to remove the foil from the outside of the mouse lens, which did absolutely nothing. Let's not forget that they denied the issue existed for at least 6 months...as of January 2009, my mouse was still jumping. Being an RTS gamer primarily, I could work with it because my view stayed the same. But try playing an FPS where one minute you're aiming at the enemy, the next you're looking straight up into the sky. That's disgraceful considering all of the buzzwords and planted reviews Razer threw out there for that mouse.
Even without those issues, I can't even agree that they make great mice otherwise. They've made ONE great mouse (which is just about on par with most of the other mice manufacturers). Everything else they label for "pros" and all of these mice releases are a trap for anyone looking for quality gaming hardware.
@Godfail I think Razer is pushing some boundaries, yes they have gimic mouse (naga, mumba and that tiny little thing) but they're doing something different.
I don't know any mouse company that really does that.
Real innovation isn't always the easiest road, but you get there.
most of us southpaws use our north paw for computer mice.
@Questionmark I will second on this
Did... did Razer just steal MS standard mouse design????
