Apple's Black Friday deals hit Australia site, same as it ever was (update: US and UK too)
Apple Down Under™ has revealed its today-only holiday gift specials, and with most deals hovering between 5 and 10 percent off, it's nothing out of the ordinary for Cupertino's wares. Still, if you're shopping for a new iMac this season, seems like the perfect opportunity to fill up your virtual shopping cart. If history tells us anything, look for these deals to hit Apple's US syndicate sometime around tomorrow.
Update: It's after midnight in the UK, and as logic dictates, the one-day sale is now in effect there, too.
Update 2: And it's Stateside: same percentage discounts, different currency.

Save 25$
25 whole dollars!
If you were short that, then you really dont need to be buying it.
@LAY I agree. $25 off is a slap in the face at 6 am.
Not getting up for that kind of "savings." This Black Friday is unadulterated suck.
@LAY
Its like getting a $1,000 off coupon on a multimillion dollar jet...
@LAY
some of the authorized Apple dealers have way better offers - just saw rebates on the 15" MBP of $300 and $180 for the new iMACs (after mail-in-rebates). I always look for other places than the official store.
@LAY Even BestBuy gives you a $150 gift card for the $999 MacBook.
mehh... google android is better..
@iLuvvGoogleAndroidz - Google Android is better than Black Friday deals at the Apple store?
That makes about as much sense as claiming purple is better than Monday. Seriously, if you wanna troll, at least troll with something that makes sense.
@scoobydooby but purple is better than monday... everything is better than monday

@iLuvvGoogleAndroidz just stop. seriously.
@Cam I will stop once mean people stop calling me a tool. It hurts my feelings. I always ask you to please reply so you can give your apology to me.

This is brilliant. It's coming to the UK this friday. I hope they give a decent price cut. LOL at Apple Down Under™
Engadget, if your'e not apple- biased, then why did you give apple one article instead of listing it in a Black Friday.... Oh, nevermind. Those are for REAL savings
@smartmouth
everyone knows that. but in the end, engadget makes money from traffic. and apple topics generally get a lot of discussion. so... put the pieces together
I totally love these discounts!!! Not here though. Apple is mostly overpriced anyway.
Hey that's $25 you can use to buy a microSD ca...... oh wait, nevermind. I forgot it doesn't support memory cards.
@Eternity
but they do...
I'm referring to the $25 you save on an ipod touch. Last I checked they don't have MicroSD expansion.
@soccerpro100cn
No they don't... you're probably referring to RAM chips, the OP is referring to SD cards with the iPhone, iPod and iPod Touch models.
Granted you can get a Card Reader to plug into the computer models, but that's as useful as putting a triggle block into a star hole.
@groovedafied
Or you could use the SD card slot on the side of the machine. Still need an adapter for the microSD card though.
@Eternity
oh sorry, thought you were talking about the computers.
i'm just curious, why would you need an SD card if the ipod touch and iphone come with 16 and 32 gb of space?
@soccerpro100cn
Well please allow me to "think different" here for a second. If my phone/pmp dies by any remote possibility in the universe whether fathomable or not.... I don't want it to take my media collection and documents with it, or contacts or messages etc...
You know that same multimedia (ie Music) I can't take out and dump into another computer if my iMac dies with the original copies. At least without a bit of hacking.
@Eternity You're making a lot of assumptions here. Trust me if your iPod and iMac die simultaneously you have something more important to worry about than your lost mp3s...
@Drago
Well I guess that settles it. Judging by the overwhelmingly bad response to this post... Having extra memory via Micro SD is a bad idea? -_-
So can you combine this with a student discount too? That would get an extra $100 or so off of the comps.
Damn, it's like they are handing out gifts.
I've been saving up, maybe it's time to save those 11$ on the Nano. My skateboard's broken so I'll invest in a bus ticket to get home. Maybe get an ice cream. Sweet.
Wow! Just look at all the not-so-much savings to be had! With savings like that I can buy a whole box of Hot Pockets!
@(Unverified) Pepperoni is the best.
Since when is Thanksgiving (or Black Friday) an international event?
@Craneguy What? People in Australia can't be thankful?
@Craneguy
apple is pretty much international with every sale.
Slow news day? Oh wait, if WinMo 7, 8 & 9 all came out today they would still find time to throw this up first. Fan girls.
Wow....the "savings" is really mind blowing. However I can only see people who are smug enough to buy it, are blinded by their own smugginess to think that these are actual "savings".
Apple should really feel embarassed about these "savings". It's a joke and to be quite frank, it's making the consumer look stupid if you actually buy into it. Christmas savings (especially black friday savings), is about saving more then $150 dollars. This is pretty much student based discounts, just substituted for black friday.
But this is very typic apple propoganda. When they compare speeds by their own products, by saying "Oh, it's 2.5x faster.....it's 1.5 times faster....it's 2 times faster." pointing out insignificant numbers to make it look like they have something incredible to report with numbers. They do the same here...
An original iMac price is $1,599.99, now if they were to put that next to their "bargain price" of $1,467.00 looks totally insignificant, so they have to put the $132 "saving" in red because your eyes will immediately see $1599.99 and $132.
I really hate Apple's business practices and their own smug approach with how to sell and market things. I'm not ripping on their OS or Hardware, because I use it at work, and it's great to use. But their business practices are as terrible as Sony's.
Sorry for the rant, Happy Holidays. Go Hackintosh.
Ross Miller, you fanboy you.. :P
so saving $25 au dollars is like saving 250 in u.s. or something?
@va jj
You really don't get out much do you...
this is basically just an advertisement at this point. i mean, its only 5-10% off, thats not "news" worthy.
had it been like a 20% blowout price? well then it would be news worthy.
you can go into an apple store and talk them down 5-10%.
At first I was tempted to jump on board with the "that's not a lot of savings crowd", but as someone who woke up at 2 AM for a Black Friday sale just to come up empty handed (you have to camp overnight if you want the biggest savings), I think I'd prefer sleeping in and saving 10% than spending the night freezing and not saving anything.
Last time I checked Apple didn't really need to offer ANY savings, as they've got enough fanboys and fangirls jumping on board those oh-so-mint looking Macbooks and accessories that they'd only lose money by offering discounts.
Apple doesn't really need to offer discounts in order to sell their computers, so honestly I don't know what all the complaining is about. If you were going to buy it anyway now would be a good day to do it.
the black friday savings on the high end models ($150 to 200) + the year round student discounts ($150 to 200) make it worth it for me. aka a $300 to 400 in savings on something like the top of the line Core i7 iMac.
@soccerpro100cn
That may or may not work when you first try to power it on.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/24/core-i7-imacs-showing-up-doa-including-ours
So do they have Black Friday in Australia ? We don't have it in the UK, we all wait for January sales.
@fourthletter
Nah. No Black Friday for us...
But apple is allowing us to save a massive $131AU which makes the Australian 21.5-inch: 3.06GHz iMac only $60US more then what the US is paying!!!
About the same as last year. Nice for anyone who was thinking of getting iPods for the holidays I guess.
Smart on Apple's part... It's barely a discount but probably enough to push a few extra people over the edge to make the purchase.
still expensive.
Apple needs to check more closely local issues before using terms like this. "Black Friday" here in Australia refers to a catastrophic fire even in February of this year, than resulted in almost 200 people being killed. Apple needs to be just a little more sympathetic to the fact that not everyone lives in California.
