Lenovo begins $200M buyback of Lenovo Mobile
Of the many trends in consumer electronics, today's announcement by Lenovo highlights two of the biggest: 1) PC makers are desperate to get in on that handheld smartphone action, and 2) China is the place to do it with its 700 million mobile subscribers. That's why Lenovo is putting up $200 million in cash and stock to reacquire its former mobile business sold to a group of investors last year; a move made possible by Lenovo's recent return to profitability. Although Lenovo says its focus will be on the Chinese market, don't be surprised when you see Lenovo branded handsets headed to downtown stores or your favorite high-street shops -- assuming the deal passes shareholder approval, of course.

about time... Lenovo has been making waves in the netbook department with its well balanced line up... I am sure the same team can do wonders for the mobile market too....
You want it back?
Through that hole maggots...
and go get me some Chinese take out, Im hungry.
Id buy a Lenovo phone, as long as they didnt turn into the next LG or Samsung pumping out phone after indistinguishable phone.
Im thinking something along the lines of a RIM competitor. Excellent hardware, reliable, targeting the business sector.
@Adamgs Soooo
You want them to ignore 3/4 of the Mobile Market? That makes no sense at all, the money is in mass market appeal products, not niche products
@z0phi3l Actually, the money (as in profits) is in high-margin smartphones.

I totally wouldn't mind some Lenovo Android phones here in the States.
Their netbooks are great and I love my Ideapad.
I think they'd make a killer Android phone. 4" and Snapdragon please.
If their phones are as good as my X200s, count me in.
very good stuff. nice time-passer. really enjoyed it. i am now indeed illuminated
VERY CLEVER.

@cherryboom You've had waaay too much thanksgiving turkey.........
why don't they just establish a new brand name?
I'd think they'd going with WinMo 6.5 and maybe 7 if it happens at that time, because of WinMo's potential.
