Exactly. If the item is not strong enough to last my normal (and relatively gentle) use, I really dont want it.

And as far as phones go (with the crazy $700 off contract prices) you just get the insurance on them anyways. Yeah I have to disagree with, "invisible shield is done" I have had one on my 3gs since it came out and they protect it like nothing else. I work construction and my phone gets the piss beat out of it. I had to replace the shield after 2 months b/c the glue was wearing off on the corners but that was due to mis-installation. when I took the old one off the phone's outside was still in immaculate condition. Now that I've had practice putting them on they last much longer. It's also almost FREE to get a replacement ($3 shipping). You really cant beat that.
