It's one product and, frankly, is now a bit 2009.  Credible competitors are now appearing (I don't think the N900 is one of these) and since the high end market is driven by fashion I think Apple have a problem on their hands unless the fourth iteration is radically different.<br><br>As for Nokia streamlining their range; why? Engadget said "Nokia launching only one Maemo device in 2010".  Nokia likely hasn't announced what that device is just yet, but that there will in fact be just one.  This doesn't have anything to do with the N900 already shipping right now.<br><br>So why has Engadget "failed"?  Just because they don't know the model number yet?  They report the news as they receive it, no matter how incomplete the info may be at the time. Unless they want to move out of the high end market altogether they will need Maemo devices. Or Android. Well, of course not, but you know what I mean. Most people don't buy their S60 device because it's a S60 device or a smartphone. Are you really talking about the S60v5 devices? I thought those were only the N97 and the 5800 (and it's lesser brother). They are bought for being smartphones, but do they really outsell the rest?<br><br>I agree with the future for Nokia being in Maemo, and that's fine with me, and that the N900 is only a test platform. But that means they have to get out other devices, that are more than a test platform for developers.<br><br>There still is a place for S60 devices, but it's in the lower end of the market. How long has Nokia been making mobile phones? 20 years?  And they make a full line of phones... from "free" dumbphones all the way up to smartphones.  No wonder they outsell the iPhone. Ergonomically, the device offers poor ballast and viewing angle when typing and the narrow clearance for the top row makes typing for any length of time tiring. If you guys were paying attention, you would know the plan is to make Maemo 6 use Qt with full multi-touch, which isn't due out until late 2010, so it hardly makes sense to flood the market with new models based on an Maemo 5.  The new device in 2010 will be another flagship device that debuts Maemo 6, shakes out the bugs and releases the wave of Maemo devices replacing S60 at the top end in 2011.  <br><br>What you need to be asking Nokia is "How many S60 top-end devices are you planning to release in 2010?"  If they say none or one, then one Maemo doesn't look so bad.  If they say 23, then Maemo needs to worry.  As it stands, 2011 is death to S60 on the top-end as it moves down to the midrange devices, but it will still be very much alive.<br><br>P.S.
