Zarhym may not care for cranberries
, but we do -- and since Pilgrim's Bounty is over and you can't get the ingredients for a good Cranberry Chutney anymore in game, we'll just have to make it at home instead.

Although the word "chutney" sounds like it would be on the slimy and disgusting side for both cooking and eating, it's actually a tasty little condiment. We turned to Wisegeek.com (style points for that reference, please!) for a non-biased description of this dish: "Chutney is similar in consistency to jelly, salsa or relish, and is used as a sweet and sour condiment. Usually made fresh, chutney contains fruit and sugar to give it a sweet taste, and almost all chutney contains vinegar and perhaps onions to give it a corresponding sour flavor. The ingredients are mixed together and then simmered slowly. While chutney is primarily sweet and sour, there can also be many variations of spices, often giving it a hot and spicy flavor."

Sound tempting? We've got a version for cooks and non-cooks alike.

Cranberry Chutney
1 Tangy Wetland Cranberries (Alliance) or Tangy Southfury Cranberries (Horde)
1 Honey
Ingredients are purchased from holiday vendors for Pilgrim's Bounty, so you won't find these in game anymore this year. Try again next season!

Cranberry Chutney may be made beginning at cooking skill 160 (orange difficulty). It goes yellow at 210, greens out at 222 and finally turns grey at 235.

Cranberry Chutney for the Non-Cook (skill level <160)
The mats
1 can whole cranberries
1 can cubed or chopped pineapple
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (check both the baking supplies and snack food areas for pre-chopped nuts)
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup raisins (chopped, if they're on the large side)
<1/8 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (don't be scared by fresh; buy a tiny little chunk) or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

The strat
No gear or skill checks are required for this one, although having a rogue on hand for Slice and Dice speeds things along. Invite all the ingredients into your raid bowl, but there's no need to zone into the raid instance in order to complete the achievement. Simply chill in Northrend (your refrigerator also works nicely) several hours before serving.

Cranberry Chutney for the Leveling Cook (skill level 160-235)
The mats
1-3/4 pounds tart apples, chopped
2-1/4 pounds fresh or canned cranberries
2 cups honey
1-1/4 cups cider vinegar
1/2 pound raisins
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 teaspoon pepper flakes
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/8 tablespoon freshly grated ginger

The strat
You can get by with a Basic Campfire for this recipe; it won't be necessary to track down an oven in town. Invite all the ingredients into your raid bowl (a saucepan should be plenty of room) and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes.

Cranberry Chutney for the Chef (skill level 235+)
The mats
1 lb. fresh cranberries
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. honey
1/2 c. golden raisins
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. fresh, grated ginger
1-1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 ground allspice
1 c. water
1 c. chopped tart apple
1 c. minced onion
1/2 c. chopped celery

The strat
Send out raid invites to all except the apples, onion and celery, then summon into a Dutch oven or other heavy cooking pot. Cook over medium heat while doing the Safety Dance (stirring frequently) until the cranberries inevitably get caught in Eruption (they release their juice, about 15 minutes). Port in the apples, onion and celery and distribute among the rest of the groups within the raid (stir in). Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until thickened (about another 15 minutes), stirring occasionally. Port back out to Northrend (chill) before serving.
