We've seen ASUS playing with
various textures on its
Seashell line before, but we haven't seen anything quite this... dramatic from the company before. It's the Eee PC 1008P, the Seashell 2 not due to be unveiled until CES, but these images captured by
HardwareZone give us plenty of info to tide us over. Inside that charmingly garish exterior (designed by
Karim Rashid) is Intel's
Pine Trail architecture with an N450 processor, the standard 1GB of RAM, and 160GB of storage. There's now room for a removable battery, hidden behind a cover and sliding out the side, the VGA port is provided by what looks to be a mini-USB adapter nestled in the bottom, and all the other ports are tucked away behind little doors that look prone to snapping off given the slightest provocation. That's all we know for now, but we should be bringing you much, much more info about this one in about a month's time.
@iPhoneMessenger
I remember you saying this on Each laptop news .. hmm let me guess troll ?
pank
Hey, thanks for the news... no?
The Asus logo looks so much more classy. And the chequered is quite nice but could be much better.
ASUS might hit this one out of the park if they put a bunch of customizable styles on their netbooks like Dell does on their more expensive laptops.
Netbooks are already becoming style objects. If ASUS can bring a custom look at a meager charge then they might be able to push the netbook industry forward again.
@(Unverified) But don't make me pay overmuch for the pleasure; just bought a Dell 10v and went for black rather than fork over $20 for a color -- the extra $$ bought me another gig of RAM. This is what Apple did right back when they released the initial iMacs and iBooks: made a rainbow of colors available at no extra price.
I want proper 1080P, not 1008P.
@LondonConsultant It was the only way they could get the removable battery in the design. Sorry!
Completely misread that as 1080P.
Good job at dropping the Eeepc logo!
To be honest, its one of the reason i bought s10 instead one of those eeepc!
does anyone really buy something life this?
@xnh02
Perez Hilton, I'd suspect.
I hope they make a normal (read: non-hideous pink) version of this with the Ion platform... it'd be a nice alternative to the HP Mini 311. Love the screen.
Looks like a handbag that is favored by trannies. Looks plasticky and cheap. Design doesn't complement the great specs it has. And what is the buzz of going loud pink? Even the lamest metrosexual with french tips wouldn't find this appealing. Sorry but this thing of an embarrassment is a complete shame before it's ever going out of the market. Improvements please. Sanity needed for ASUS ASAP.
