The PSPGo doesn't need a UMD drive, that's defeating it's purpose in the first place, and the lack of a UMD drive isn't what makes the PSPGo a failure. The things that make the Go a failure is:
1. It's Price
2. Lack of a removable Battery
3. Lack of PSP only digital content on PSN (where's the ridicolous amount of PSP games, ah Sony?!)
4. Smaller screen than the 3000, despite the fact space was freed up on the front of the device.

If the price was lowered, it had a removable battery, and much much more PSP games were available for purchase on PSN, the PSPGo would be a reasonable purchase.
