For a limited time only -- and you should be able to guess how long that is -- Japanese SonyStyle customers can order up
the TX1 in the especially wintry attire you see above. Already available in a choice of five colors, the cam will also let you choose between black, silver and pink for the engraved models, and we also hear these snowflakes are part of a wider range of engraved designs. Options titled Safari, Race, and Heart are also available, and you can even add your own message to the front, or just tag it with your name if you're feeling narcissistic. Either way, you can see the other color options after the break, or try out all the different looks using the interactive skinning tool at the source link.
Sony do make some nice cameras, its a shame ill never buy one due to the fact they use Memory Sticks.
@Adamgs
Memory cards are cheap. Even Memory Sticks if you can find them on sale. There are microSD to Memory Stick Duo adapters available so at least in theory you could avoid buying an actual Memory Stick and you'd be using the more popular SD format (the micro version, anyway).
Or you could buy a Sony Alpha DSLR since they use Compact Flash or SD cards in place of, or in addition to Memory Sticks.
@Adamgs
Nothing even remotely comes close to Memory Stick's performance in multiple small access. SD cards have higher sustained speeds, but when writing many small files they choke at a few KiB/s.
I quite like this, except for the fact that it will look cool in only a very limited part of the year.
Has anyone noticed how some of those snow flakes are six pointed Hebrew, Jewish stars? Is Japan-Sony trying to tell us somethng?
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi LOL. I noticed the "Star of David" as well.
@(Unverified) very cool - also the mitsibushi logo!!!
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi
Man this camera will sell like hot cakes in the Arab world.
@Dr Yusuf AlKindi ... that they went cheap on the design and just used a font's asterisks?
"..or just tag it with your name if you're feeling narcissistic..." hehe :)
I've always liked Sony cameras. I have an Alpha and had many other pocket cameras as well.
My main problems, besides memory stick, is the RAW format for Alpha cameras, at least in my model, and the Sony idea that by creating weird file formats I wont leave them.
Its actually the opposite. Pocket cameras might be very good but my next DSLR will be a Canon or Nikon.
@Mr w00t
You do realize that your Alpha does have a slot for either Compact Flash or SD memory cards?
And the RAW format that Sony uses is not really any different than the RAW files that Canon or Nikon uses; ultimately, it's a matter of finding the best plug-in for the photo editing software you use or the RAW converter that gives you the best results. It's not like those RAW files will only work with the converter that Sony provides.
Switching to Canon or Nikon for other reasons than memory card or RAW file formats is justified. Like better high ISO performance, HD video capability, or higher FPS capture speeds. The ones you listed aren't very valid.
I wish I had one just for the party dock. But I just got a T1i anyway.
I just woke up... I thought it said Snowy Snowflake DSC-TX1...
I've got the wx1 on the way and two 16gb memory sticks ($40 each, thanks to black friday). Can't wait to start playing with it. After actually touching this and the wx1 at frys, I decided on the slightly larger one, though still a pocket camera, for the extra features/zoom.
Source link is busted.
Looks a bit flaky.
Another great piece of photoshop art!
I'd love to have this camera .. i'm a really wintery guy
