Marvell's Armada chip bringing 'HD-quality video, 3D graphics support' to Entourage Edge
We already knew that a potent Marvell chip was under the hood of Spring Design's Alex, but at long last the mystery surrounding the powerhouse within Entourage's Edge is no more. The Armada PXA168 processor will be responsible for steering the world's first "Dualbook" through the stormy seas that'll be created once crazed consumers get ahold of this thing, and while we've no idea if the software will actually support this laundry list of capabilities, the chip should have no issue with "full-featured web browsing, multi-format video and image processing." More specifically, we're informed that "HD-quality video and 3D graphics" will be supported, which could obviously lead to some pretty interesting applications (you know, like actual web surfing on an e-reader). Hop on past the break for a brief look at an early generation model as well as a functioning version of what should hopefully hit shelves in early 2010.

looks sweet, but i hate the glare screen
Screw this thing, where's my Courier?
Dear God what a clusterfrack of a device!
Make it all e-paper or all LCD, please.
loose the e-ink garbage and just use one screen ... what a silly useless design.
It looks like a capacitive screen on the right. I find it silly that she keeps using her finger nail to tap the screen. Maybe she should try to use actual flesh (or a the flat end of a AA battery)
the reporter was pretty silly.. kept say eee dee gee eee and tapped the capacitive screen with her nails. this device looks better than I originally thought it did.. but I think a thin single display 10" LCD android tablet would crush it.. not to mention the apple tablet
Why is the bezel surrounding the display so big? It makes the device unnecessarily wide. What a waste and it doesn't look cool. If they really needed it for electronics junk .. it would have been better if the device was thicker instead. Make the bezel minimalist.
Microsoft Courier reacts upon this "news":
(In a confused tone)
" D A D !??...."
Stupid reviewer. ITS CALLED A CAPACITIVE SCREEN! Stop using your fake fingernails, and being a total idiot throughout the "review" if you can even call it that. Come on Engadget, either find a O.K. to good video, or don't show a video at all.
Sweet jesus on a raptor with chocolate balls! , this thing is freeking BIG, you could beat a polar bear to death with it, hopfully the final production model will be more practical, ( if its gen 1 I don't wanna put money on it getting to gen 2 )as to the girl in the video, please stop, your voice makes my ears bleed,
Wow, they actually credited themselves with that video preview? They couldn't even effectively demo the device! Terrible work.
Generation 1 looks incredibly thick, Gen 2 looks a bit better, but so much glare. And they didn't show us the size of either device CLOSED, either. Hmm.
Still, interesting concept, though not entirely sold on needing or wanting an entire capacitive screen.
does anyone really want eReaders that need to charge every day (or less)? I can go for 3 weeks on my Sony and honestly the first thought is never 'gee I hope I remembered to charge it last night'.
"HD-quality" does NOT mean actual HD...
Lets see, Looks Expensive, and a Battery HOG and not Easy on the eye's reading for hours. I think people are who really don't read much other then what's on their PC screen just don't get it!!!! I DON'T want all this garbage. It's NOT needed. What's needed is cheaper Ebooks. I'd like to see the $99 6" eink ebook to come out. If you want all this other garbage get a LAPTOP or Netbook, or hell even a Cell Phone. In the month I've had my Kindle reading daily, I've hooked it up to the charger 2 times and it was that much just because I didn't want the battery to die on me in the middle of a reading session and since it's new, I'm not sure how long it'll run for before dieing.
