It was so promising with everything it could offer. I knew it would be missing thing like WiFi but though maybe the second generation would include it. The clock was easy to set up. Multiple alarms are a huge plus. The video was fine as well as adding all the picture I wanted. Having multiple ways of input is a really nice touch. Once everything was set and configured was when I began being disappointed.

There are multiple ways for your display to look, but after your alarm goes off, the display reverts back to it standard setting and there is no way for it to remain how you want it to look unless you again reconfigure it. The standard display setting is not my favorite. It has the picture you choose with the time right across it making it look like a mess. At night the display can be quite bright. When you dim it to the lowest of the 3 settings the clock is near invisible making it useless. Also if you dim the display to it's lowest setting the clock seems to shut it's self off completely. I've been late to work twice now due to this. (it could be just mine however)

The fact that there is no remote is mind boggling. Even Sony's simple alarm docks have a remote. Often times when waking up I like to listen to talk radio to get my news. We all know how annoying the commercials on the radio can be, but without a remote or even mute button we are forced to listen unless you get up manually turn off the radio or change stations.

This was a good attempt at what it could be. And for early adopters you usually know what you are getting; but there are just too many issues at this point to justify owning one at it's current price. It might be better suited for a den or kitchen, just not your bedroom."

Would you recommend this product to a friend?: No

shalegac

Comments on Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: Docks and Alarm Clocks

The Chumby should be on here!!!

LONG LIVE CHUMBY

Darius

Comments on Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: Docks and Alarm Clocks

you really should call this guide "Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: iPod and iPhone Docks and Alarm Clocks"

Ben

Comments on Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide: Docks and Alarm Clocks

Here's how i got my Droid . You need to charge your iPod and also want an Aux out to your AUX input on your car stereo. So you use a PocketDock. You can buy the multi-headed cable from Apple with the video out and everything, but when you plug it in it shuts off the video on your iPod. And of course its expensive and has the wrong connectors etc. Apple doesn't sell an audio only one. She uses hers at work to charge while she listens to Pandora on the phone. I use mine at home for an alarm clock. Probably going to order two more. One for my work, and one for her nightstand. They are just so convenient. Wish they could be set to display a flickr stream like a screensaver after a while though. The hires screen would make an awesome digital picture frame.
