Electrolux "Silence Amplified" vacuum with iPod dock and speakers probably sucks
Crazy huh? Sure, but if your company just launched a commercial vacuum cleaner so quiet that it's called the "UltraSilencer" then what better way to drive that point home than by adding an "iPod dock" (though that's no iPod we've ever seen) and speakers to the damn thing? In fact, Electrolux has taken this Silence Amplified concept so far that they've conducted a lab study to prove that "music assisted vacuuming increases the number of nozzle sweeps, improves the cleaning result and leaves a general feeling of happiness." Duh. Now go check the video evidence after the break.

I just use my 5:1 Sound system xD
@DeviantmacG
I just switch on my Roomba then bugger off to the pub for a pint! (-:
@ Engadget - Soooo you guys ever gonna get around to fixing the new photo gallery thing? Cuz I still can't browse through pics when I click the photo links from the main article. Maybe you could finally fix your comment system while you're at it....
@DeviantmacG It works in every room in your house?
nice! Now I want this on my mop too!
@mikmik111 Mixing water and electronics is asking for trouble! :P
This must be for people who can't afford a Dyson.
"Yours just sucks, mine plays music!!"
@Khris
Actually, Electrolux vacuums are very high-end.
This is just a lame gimmick, and another useless attempt to shove an iPod dock into everything conceiveable.
@r34p3r
Yes they are high end; but not Dyson high end.
And your right about the ipod doc thing.
I would understand making a vacuum cleaner with no noise. Now that I would buy.
@Khris
@Khris Dyson is overrated.
@(Unverified)
It really is. It does the job, but it's not as spectacular as the engineering shown on the commercials.
I wonder which fool actually gonna spend money on this...OMG!
They should have spend the money inventing some more productive or needed....
Although I agree that shoving an ipod dock on everything is a stupid idea, I have to admit that that is the coolest looking vacuum cleaner I have seen

Instead of using an MP3 player dock which will become obsolete before you ever change your first bag, Electrolux should have opted for a SD Card slot based system. Considering the low cost of SD memory it makes adding music to the vac much cheaper than buying an IPOD for those who dont already have one.
@barCODE You're right about the Ipod dock being limited, but your SD card idea means that they would have to create a media player as well as the speakers and connections. Can you imagine Electrolux making a media player? They should just have an enclosure and a 3.5mm cable.
@(Unverified)
MP3 players are a dime-a-dozen these days. Cheap ones can be bought retail for less than $20. All that Electrolux needs to do is contract with a Far East company and just buy the ready made circuit boards with SD and MP3 decoding for a couple of dollars a piece.
I do. Do want. Now!
If it's really THAT silent, then count me in. Very cool design.
I hate that vacuum cleaner noises so fucking much. It's unbearable.
How much does it cost?
Hilarious title :D
Looks like a frozen chicken to me.
Wow, if we could take some of this innovation and actually apply it to something useful, we'd be in business. I'd really like to know what sort of people sit in an office and say "I've got it, a vacuum with an ipod dock".
We at Nukleuz Records are going to get one of these and load it with old skool HOOVER rave tunes. http://nukleuz.com.
"music assisted vacuuming increases the number of nozzle sweeps, improves the cleaning result and leaves a general feeling of happiness."
No mention about, how much it does improves sucking
so I guess the old way its still the best if you know what I mean.
I am going to have to defend this little guy, seems like everyone is bashing it cause it has a dock, but I think everyone is forgetting that some people have houses larger than one room, and not everyone has an iPod/iPhone dock availiable in every room, or for that matter every floor.
Cranking the volume up in your den, that is 3 floors below you while you are trying to clean the upstairs bedrooms will get you a nice little "disturbing the peace" phone call.
This on the other hand allows you to bring your music with you while cleaning, I know you could probably just stick it in your pocket, and pop your headphones in and jam, but if you are like me you hate headphone chords dangling around your neck and when you bend over to pick something up your arm gets caught, and you fall down the stairs, and probably die a slow lung puncturing, while listening to Elton John, death.
But I am just defending it and it purpose, I think it serves it, and I think it will be bought in limited amounts, but I don't think the idea is so far out there it deserves the criticism it is getting. After all everyone knows music causes productivity to increase.
End of Line.
@7egend That's why Apple invented AirTunes. With two airport express base stations and my Apple Tv I have a whole house music system. The cool thing is my iPod controls the whole thing, so when my wife starts screaming at me over Warp-11 cranked up I can turn it down without having to go back to my room to turn down my laptop.
@barry99705
You also have to have some sort of radio in that room, an airport express in those rooms, you also have to purchase an Apple TV(in your case) maybe someone would rather have a Mac Mini, by time it's all said and done you are going to have well over 2K invested into a whole house music system if not more for larger applications.
I don't see investing that much just to listen to music while cleaning. This is a better alternative to the less tech savvy who just want to listen to music while they clean.
Not everyone is made of money.
@barry99705
Wow - you didnt just drink the juice - you chugged it didnt you?
@7egend
WOW so you just called us poor, I have a three bedroom one story home so what! Anyways I applued them for making the vacum silent but just use your headphones and your zune, ipod, walkman... Also if you can afford this vacum you can also afford a sound system for your home. I have at least two speakers and everyroom with an on off switch + volume control. When there are to many of us that want to watch the came thing some sit in my living room and the rest in the other rooms. I also installed a switch so they can either lisen to the living room feed or the room they are in. I did that my self for like $2000
@7egend Hmm... tricky..... Headphones?
nice title. now, pair this with an air conditioner with an ipod dock. then you'd have something with speakers that probably blow.
Where can I get one?
@Khris
Actually, Electrolux USED to be high-end. Now, they just price themselves that way. Last Electrolux we had lasted for 15+ years with next to no maintenance. Replacement canister we bought from them lasted less than two years before the wand (tube) needed to be completely replaced due to poor (read 'shorting') wiring. Bought replacement parts for it from a local service center who essentially said "Wait til it catches fire".
It runs and does a decent job, but they don't last like they used to. (Then again, what does?)
Crap remains crap, regarding name like hyper-, super-, ultra- etc.
Only information about "Ultrasilencer" noise level:
"How quiet?" you ask. The new Ultrasilencer reduces noise levels a whole seven decibels. This means it´s more than four times less noisy than most machines out there (it halves the sound twice, in scientific terms).
Good joke, minus 7 dB from 77 dB?
iPod redesign confirmed
Nothing sucks like Electrolux!
After reviewing their website, it looks like this is just a concept. http://www.electrolux.se/node37.aspx?categoryid=14526#/EN/conceptvacuum/
Only way this is worthwhile is if it drives itself and plays carnival music.
@gellpak
And can hold itself up when I stand on it to ride through the house on it.
Well the particular vacuum cleaner with ipod dock is just a concept, so this thing isn't actually in production. The UltraSilencer currently in produciton does not sport any speakers/dock and emits some 68 dB which compared to other vacuum cleaners is quite low.
Now when they add noise canceling technology akin to a pair of decent headphones, then I'll buy in an instant.
I'm glad they did not include the dock and speakers as it would just add cost. I'm fine if the vacuum is silent and then play my music off my stereo while vacuuming. What I'd like to see is Electrolux marrying the silent tech with their Trilobite robot vacuum, as the sound pressure it generates is almost 250% higher than the new silent tech.
If any of you have actually used a modern Electrolux Canister like the Oxygen3 you would be absolutely shocked at how quiet it is on AUTO or low mode. It is about as loud as turning on your faucet on your sink.
At least 75% more quiet than a Dyson or similar, also if you ask any service person about Dyson they all say the same thing, that company is all about marketing much like Bose.
iSuck ...
True, but irrelevant.
Forget that, I want one that's designed to look like a head crab.
things i never knew i wanted...
Electrolux has made great canister vacuums for years. Expensive, but worth the price. Not sure how well the music will sound or how well the iPod is protected in that thing either.
Wow, the whole iAnything accessory market has gone too far. Doesn't your iWhatever come with headphones? That's what I've done when I want to listen to music when I vacuum.
And the mock-up looks more like a Creative Zen than an iPod.
whats next, mr sheen headphones? i thought this was a mouse at first hahaha
damn that's a vacuum? that looks like a sweet design for a mouse. shux. I was really hoping that my next ipod was going to be that small and fit in my mouse..
