Kohjinsha DZ gets unboxed and stretched out
It's been a good while since we've seen an unboxing as thorough as this, even if the quality of the recording could be better. The chaps over at Wow Pow have sourced one of them dual-screen Kohjinsha DZ netbooks, which have had us intrigued since we saw them at CEATEC earlier this year. What we find from their cardboard adventuring is that the DZ comes with a LiteOn charger, a 6-cell 5,200mAh battery with endurance rated at four hours (though they've suggested that might be for only one screen), a 1Seg tuner that works only in Japan, and a multitouch trackpad. Powered by a 1.6GHz AMD Neo and 4 gigs of RAM, this machine definitely wants to escape the netbook tag, and its neat inclusion of an internal USB port intended for wireless connectivity dongles gives it another unorthodox selling point. Go beyond the break to see its de-boxing.

Why did I have that sudden impression of goatse when I read "stretched out" and saw that hands in the picture?
spin the screen around when they are both out and put it down like a tablet, add multi-touch to both screens, and you have a killer table-hockey/battleship/command&conquer interface!
but they still haven't come up with the screen on both sides of the "lid" of the laptop concept yet...
Impressed. As he said.
@IceNio
Your not the only one that is impressed by this; I am too.
Leave to the Jap's to make something this cool. Looking forward to a bigger version of this with LED instead of LCD..
that hinge looks sooo floppy!!! the internal usb is a clever idea though!! saves having to have a big old dongle sticking out waiting to get snapped off!! although surely an integrated WWAN card would of taken less space??
A fantastic review,
Thank You Very Much :)
In tomorrow's world, if you want to sell a bunch of computers for more than $400, you will need a lot more than a fast CPU and a nice video adaptor.
This kind of design innovation is going to make a real difference for the end user who surfs the internet or uses office productivity software. A much bigger difference than video, processor, or even RAM differences will make.
Sure, blu-rays and streaming videos require some horsepower, but a lot of cheap processors can handle that. A lot of people can't justify spending $1000 on a laptop when a $500 surfs the web just fine. But a dual screen computer with a place to hide your 3G Aircard? That's worth more money to a lot more people.
However it does look like the rebadged version is better actually how bizarre ?, and cheaper.

@Diesel1313 The Kohjinsha DZ is not a "rebadged Onkyo".
The Onkyo has two 1368x768, while the Kohjinsha DZ has two 1024x600 screens.
As cool as this looks, the Onkyo would be much more functional. 600 pixel vertical screen limit can be a pain for some applications.
Sure, virtually unlimited width is great, but at least "standard" screen heights are a must.
"Hello this is Larry from wowpow blog, today we're actually going to do a quick unboxing..." the video is 9+ mins, FAIL.
@aaronaaron fail? because they put together a cool, detailed video? Looks like a big win to me.
If you think they are wasted your so "valuable" nine minutes, then feel free to fast-forward through what bored you. Or just move on.
Instead, you burned up another two minutes of your "valuable" time leaving a comment on something that doesn't interest you.
@tmarks11 To be fair, they could have gotten to the dual screens earlier in the video. You can't exactly fast-forward a YouTube video (you can only skip around and hope you hit the right spot), and I'm sure most people are much more interested in the dual screens than the "free" neoprene case.
@chaos215bar2 in all fairness, all unboxing's are like this
other then the hinge looking really weak, i must say this looks pretty sweet
if i was doing some basic programing on the go, i would MUCH rather have 2 screens
Very impressed but for a few things....
Could be a little larger. Would it of killed them to make it 13 or 15 inch?
And dual screen. Has always been aimed at the graphics artist and editor with that in mind the 1.6ghz cpu just doesnt cut it. Shame really as i rather like the look of this.
Oh and yes the hinge looks toooooo flimsy
