The reason I specify the difference is because Apple uses the same components as most other laptops, it is how they fit the components together (sometimes for worse) that they have such aesthetically pleasing designs. Asking for a Macbook to be 800 - 850 is a reasonable price since a similar spec'd PC can be bought at 600 - 650 (with a few nicer features missing). It would have more people buy the Macbook while still maintaining the image of a premium product company.

John W Harding

Comments on

@martynmcfarquhar Can't live without the firewire

chocistar

Comments on

@Monten3gro

Nice zealot reply there Monten3gro. I am not even sure that sony has a budget line, all vayos are expensive. Difference is that Apple don't have a budget line, and they don't really need one. Shure, the introduced the ipod shuffle just to have a cheap player, but for the same money you can get something that has a display and more capacity. Btw, apple don't make laptops, various tawianese companies make them, i think asus and compal for instance. But the good thing about free market is that you have choices. Think it is overpriced? Then vote with your wallet and punish them. Apple is successful for many reasons, one of which is their premium feel and integrated experience (software, hardware, design language, device interaction). I cannot afford a macbook (new), but i respect what they do and Steve knows that lowering the prices will lead to expectations for greater discounts, and from then, its all race to the bottom.

And btw, an Audi A3 has the exact same components as a VW Golf or Seat leon, or Skoda Octavia, but it is the "premium" brand, so they charge more for it. Same engine, same transmission, same platform, just sleeker and higher priced.

Val

Comments on

Four smaller doors!

jol

Comments on

@(Unverified)
and wheels and a radio

tromboner140

Comments on

I just have to say that these "How would you change..." posts are just stupid. Also, the screen isn't really as good as the ones on the pros. I'd wish they'd keep the quality of their screens on level, as that is one of the few reasons i do buy macbooks. Also, are some up to date boot camp drivers and fixes that hard to ask for?
