LaCie introduces Rikiki portable hard drive, monkey
Apparently, making a sleek, tiny and reasonably affordable hard drive isn't enough for LaCie. No, it has to stoop to using an impossibly adorable monkey to attract attention for its new Rikiki drive (available now in 250GB, 500GB, and 640GB capacities, priced between $75 and $150). Well, that's just not going to cut it this time.... awww, look at the tiny monkey.

More like "AHHH, LOOK AT THAT HORRIFYING MONKEY"
@Uncontrol
that thing is frightening.
@Uncontrol My Minions!
Wait till it eats your face!
@Uncontrol
I like that guy, but if he tries to finger that little monkey for real tomorrow, I'm gonna call the humane society.
@vlad the inhaler yeah. looks like a poster child for rabies :s.
OK, they got me. I'll take two.
Then breed them so I have some more.
@DTJ
1) Buy 2 hard drives with 2 monkeys
2) Breed Monkeys
3)????
4)DIGI-MON DIGITAL MONKEYS
5)RULE THE DIGITAL WORLD!!!!!!
6)Profit?
@Rizzo You killed that joke. And not in a good way.
i'll take two also.
not to breed them,
to breed with them.
@Maeztro
but... digimon digital monkeys......
Can I touch the monkey?
@CityZen
Is that your pickupline for the ladies?
You and me baby we ain't nothin' but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel
Do it again now...
@geekthree, no, just showing my age with a reference to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprockets_%28Saturday_Night_Live%29
So they do monkey with your data?
@(Unverified)
Dad?
@ytilanigiroon
Mom?
I'm interested to know how exactly this hooks up to a PC/Laptop and how would the power work? Is there a separate adapter or does it all work through the USB/Firewire?
@Plazmic Flame
Have you not used an external drive before?
Does that thing use 1.8" hard drives?
Because I might just have to buy that to take it apart for my Dell XT2
@(Unverified) I would say no, since they offer the 640GB capacity and that's only available in 2.5" form.
Do you have to plug this thing into a banana to make it work?
I want the monkey; they can keep the drive.
@JeanMichel Decombe

Buy that one, its wearing a little wool jumper. Naww
At least they aren't using the same monkey AT&T is using
@yulebellow
Now, that is not nice. Luke Wilson is a very handsome man.
i want one, its perfect! my girlfriend can have the monkey for christmas, how long would it live in a box?
That monkey wouldn't happen to be the engineer would it?
LaCie always seems to bring affordability to the storage game and I like them for that. I might snag that 500GB drive to take on the road with my so I have something to offload my RAW/JPEG images onto (cannot wait for everyone to get on board the DNG standard x.x), but the evil monkey will stay in my closet.
@DBG
So you are a photographer. Well done.
I will buy that if buy a hard drive and get a monkey for FREE!
surely the whole point of that harddrive is to be able to store it easily.....that monkey kinda defeats the whole purpose???
Is it 7200rpm and is it bus-powered?
are they hoping the monkey distracts you long enough to notice the drive only has a 1 year warranty?
@Nicnac actually it has a 2 year warranty, but I do agree that the monkey is definitely umm...eye-catching?
That monkey + my superfast cat= Kentucky Derby win
So, you don't actually get a monkey with the drive?
oh.
Seriously LaCie, include a monkey with the drive. Do it. You'll sell heaps.
that is not merely a monkey: that, my friends, is a pygmy marmoset, the iphone of monkeys.
@m6 well done sir
PS If the marmoset comes with the Hardrive,I'll take 2 plz..that is all
The good thing about harddrives (and monkeys) that small, is that when they fail (and they eventually do), you can throw them pretty far...
Hey you Monkey and hard drive GET A ROOM
That monkey is CGI...
There's an Ape for that
Just read on gizmodo that LaCie claims the drive is the tiniest 2.5" ext. hard drive! LaCie, Cirago's got you beat! they are tinier at 4.7 x 3.0 x 0.35 inches and they've been on the market for a few months now! i own a few and love them! They look nicer too. www.cirago.com
and yea, the eyes on that monkey are a lil creepy!
I'll buy one if it will accelerate my evolution.
