But otherwise, the warranty, full game trial, tokens, cloud storage, online music/video service and catch up tv sound AMAZING. i'm a bit of a tight wad when it comes to adding another montly/yearly bill. but for circa 60 bucks a year, i think this would be well worth it. It'd only be cutting 10 tacos from jack in the box out of my monthly late nite food ordering. I came in here to say exactly the same thing. The whole point of business is to actually meet the competition and then surpass them with additional benefits. It already is cheaper than XBOX Live, its free. The PSN was one of the primary reasons why I bought a PS3 to begin with. Most expensive console on the market? This is 2009, not 2008... The 250GB Xbox 360 is $399 and the 250GB PS3 is $349, with the base consoles (arcade does NOT count, its there for RRoD victims to buy) both priced at $299. Why, exactly, wouldn't the arcade model count? It is an Xbox 360, just sans HDD. You can use everything on the console, and play every game in brick-and-mortar's, you just can't download much of anything.

I'll be picking up a PS3 after the new year regardless, but one of the biggest selling points of the PS3 is about to go out the window if this Gold -- sorry -- Premium Membership business is actually true. I already pay $50/year for Gold; the only advantage to paying for Premium PSN would be the one hour of full games. Everything else looks about the same as XBL Gold.

The language does hint at the service being download based, as it states "you will have the option of purchasing the game to continue playing." The size of the average gamer's built in HD would be a problem if a user were to dl a lot of games.
Another option would be for Sony to tie up with a retailer so you could order a physical copy of the game right then and there from your console after the demo. A discount for paying members of the service would be nice. That model might give enough incentive to game publishers to offer hour long full trials.

I'll give them cloud storage, and music/music video services, and Full title trial, those are true bonuses but everything else should NOT be charged for. "Customer service priority access my ass.
