So Sprint just published an official fact sheet for a U301 USB modem with support for both
WiMAX and EV-DO -- it's not accompanied by any press release or product page on Sprint's online store, but we can only assume this means that a release is around the corner. Of course, the dual-mode capability alone doesn't set it apart -- the carrier's existing U300 model already handles those duties with aplomb -- but what seemingly sets the U301 apart is its support for Mac OS. We'd just as soon they'd release drivers for the U300, but failing that, alright, fine, we'll take a new modem. If we're sustaining over 3Mbps down, we'll take a lot of carrier and manufacturer abuse, actually.
I just wanted to applaud the excellent usage of the word "aplomb." Whenever I use it in a sentence, I sound like a douche canoe.
@ready 2 rumble
Personally, I lol more at "douche canoe", but that's just me... ;)
@ready 2 rumble I was thinking more along the lines of douche chugger
WIMAX SUCKS; LTE is where it's at!
Come on, Sprint! I know it's cheap, but WHY CLEARWIRE? Worst internet provider I've ever had to deal with! I'm on Comcast now, and while Comcast is the evil of evil when it comes to corporations, at least their customer service and general internet performance in my area meets my expectations.
Your mileage may vary, however...
@r34p3r
How is LTE where it's at when it's not out of the lab?
22nm processors, the Radeon 6970, and 5TB hard drives are also where it's at.
You enjoy your future technology, I'll enjoy my 6Mb/s wireless downloads with peaks of 13Mb/s.
@COCOViper
Stupid.
Teliasonera already starts LTE in Norway and Sweden.
Lte is working there ALREADY - in 2 countries - and that's just before the start of rollout next year.
@fontendet
Wimax was at that level in freaking 2005 man... there will be no mass rollout next year, 2011 will be LTE's year, but not before, mark my words.
@fontendet It's in Stockholm and Oslo only, whose combined city population is roughly half that of Chicago, IL, which is just one of the 26 markets across 10 states currently provided with WiMAX service by Clear Wireless.
Forgive me for not being impressed with LTE's market penetration just yet.
oh god i just pulled down my pants to double check and i am seriously freaking out.
@arboreal snowman
There's an app for that.
@arboreal snowman
And it performs about the same, too, I would imagine?
@r34p3r
if by "it performs the same" you mean that it gives women great broadband access wherever they are then yes.
yes it does.
it also swivels.
now if only they could come up with some new phones...
@(Unverified) No doubt.
If "imminent" means "the next few weeks" you may be on to something there.
Yep, MacOS support ootb.
Same 4G goodness you've come to expect.
This goes along with the partnership with Clear/Comcast etc. because I live in the King County Metro Area where there's 4G service and Comcast is offering the 4g/3g bundle. i think im gonna get it.
Still no microSD slot.
At least this one looks smaller than the one I almost purchased on Friday.
