I was one of the first wave of nook recipients, and couldn't read Tipping Point (the free included book) without certain pages being unviewable (like having several pages torn out of a book). While there are workarounds, if you can't read the books you buy in a normal manner, that should constitute a defect. Just the tip of the iceberg - many problems besides being slow or the occasionally clunky UI. Besides, from a PR perspective, refusing to accept returns w/o charging the 10% at this stage would probably pile bad PR on top of bad PR.

I'll try the update today, and if it doesn't deal with the major bugs, back it goes.

DeKay

Comments on Nook 1.1 update hitting now

Have had my Nook for over a week. I can swipe about ten times in succession and only get one page turn if I'm lucky. Otherwise it's; swipe-wait 5 seconds-swip-wait 5 seconds-and no response. Secondly, if I download a new book...The Cover Page View on the LCD stops being aligned with what is show on the Main Screen. So for instance if I just download a book called "Night Fall" and go see it in cover view..clicking on it will then put my on a book called "The Hunger Games"...Until I do a shut down/start up. 1.1 update seems to have fixed or improved on some issues, Like page number/time display/some refresh rates. But where's the "go to page number update" or make highlighting and look up word functions actually usable. Shouldn't there be a whole section or page dedicated to my notes so I don't have to fish for the actual page to see what I highlighted. It seems like a waste of a function this way.

Guy

Comments on Nook 1.1 update hitting now

@ferdmani22

Also just noticed that when I used to click on a book to read..there was a cover page of sorts where I could choose to read or rate the book. That seems to now be completely out of the UI. So rating books is no longer possible?
