Logic Wireless 150LGW projector phone reminds us of that Bolt we once saw
Remember the Bolt from CES 2009? Man, that was ages ago. If you'll recall, projector phones were actually all the rage for around 4.67 minutes at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, and ever since we've been dealt months of nothing alongside one lone ranger of something in the LG eXpo. Evidently Logic Wireless is hoping that we'll forget all about the Bolt that never shipped and instead focus on the next best thing: the 150LGW. Available for order now at Skymall (of all places), the projector phone looks significantly slimmer and more stylish than the company's first crack, and aside from the inbuilt PJ, there's also twin SIM card slots, dual cameras, an Office file viewer, quad-band GSM radio, Bluetooth and Symbian running the show. We aren't too sure we'd be willing to shell out $499 without any proof that this thing is worth its salt, but you can bet we'll be on the hunt for it once CES 2010 opens up next week.

you're asking who'd shell out 499$ for something they saw in skymall? have you ever even flown in an airplane? it's probably the cheapest thing in there.
alright, alright, the signed photo of the soup nazi is slightly cheaper, but not much.
weird combination, if it's a touchscreen phone i wonder why there is a keyboard, if it's a S60 5th edition phone it's the first with this form factor.
Also i hope it has some other awesome features, because that's a quite high price for a regular phone that happens to have a projector in it.
@(Unverified)
Why would it be a touchscreen or S60 5th?
If it's Symbian it's probably S60 3rd.
@Endadget
it says so in the OhGizmo article on the link. but they probably made a mistake
@Endadget Looks like the Nokia E5x as well
so projector phones are the new smart-phones are the new camera phones are the new color LCD phones are the new polyphonic ringtone phones.
The irony is they still haven't gotten cellphones to reliably place calls.
shit. a projector? in a phone?
can any manufacturer please focus on a phone that is simply good at calling and sending text messages? without all the crap they put in there nowadays. a few weeks ago my good old nokia 1100 fell and the most basic and cheap replacement model I could find had a colour display and was filled with loads of crap no one ever uses anyway. it just irritates me to think about how they could save production costs (and the environment) if manufacturers would make a basic model that actually is basic. something that is good at texting and calling, nothing more or less.
cheap.
good, clear, sound quality.
sturdy.
durable, ecological, not the cheapest of all cheap plastics they use on basic models nowadays.
a black&white display (whoever invented our need for a colour display for making phone calls and texting anyway?).
long battery life.
just enough memory for around 500 contacts
flat, small, light.
simple ringtones (monophonic).
I (and a lot of people with me) would buy a phone like that for the same price as I had to pay for a model in cheap plastic with a unnecessary colour display, short battery life and filled with shitty applications and polyphonic ringtones we don't need.
@kongking
Really??? Black and white screen? Monophonic ringtones? I have a few old school Nokia's I'll send you that are just that. I thought this site was a place to look at new tech.
BTW... Can I haz phone projectorz?
@kongking
2003 called, they want their nokia 5100 series and their ideal cell phone imagery back.
Did that phone just fart out a football game image? I'll take ten!
I just do not get why you need a projector in a phone. It obviously can't be powerful enough to provide a good image quality. It will drain the battery. How can you text with the projector on? Etc, etc..
Count me out on desiring a projector in my phone.
I surprised that out of 9 comments on this, several are so negative. Sounds like some Engadget commenters didn't get what they wanted for xmas...
Haha .. I buy all my phones at Skymall.. yeah right
Perhaps I'm a luddite but the whole projector-phone concept seems like a solution in search of a problem. I cannot remember the last time I've wished that I could project a dim lo-res video from my phone. I'm pretty sure I've never, in fact, wished for that capability.
What's the killer application? The LG projector-phone ads that have been airing on TV lately seem to suggest that we should buy this phone so that we can show movie trailers to coworkers. Seriously?
@arcasinky
it would be nice to have, if it didn't considerably increase the price and thickness of the phone. and if it could project a good image around 2 meters far without eating too much battery.
i sometimes watch some show episodes on my phone in bed before going to sleep, for me it would be awesome if i could project the video on the ceiling and comfortably lie back
You are now manually playing SkyMall by Jonathan Coulton in your head.
I think my HC4900 1080p projector can barely perform to an acceptable level (it is close to perfection), how will this even come close? There are major dynamic range and brightness issues that I have worked on in my home theater that this wouldn't be able to match.
And I am still happy with my basic phone that has no camera and can be used to make phone calls anywhere in the world.
