Ubuntu starts in less than a minute too.<br><br>Startup time has much more to do with your hard drive speed, so quit complaining about Atom which is fast enough for most everyone. If you consider the bazillions (give or take) 15" laptops with 2-3 hours of battery life that get sold each month, the call for more frugal laptops you're referring to is likely coming mostly from the geek segment who spend all day on their computers.<br><br>The solution, IMO, is SSDs replacing HDDs, which should start happening widely in 2010 and 2011.  By 2012, I hope that spinning magnetic platters are rarely found in consumer-grade portable computers. Netbook sales keep increase at huge rates (did I read something like up 100% last year?).  Also, the people that are buying netbook-sized computers are looking for portability and not power.  Portability and power life go hand in hand for most people, as carrying around a power brick is cumbersome.<br><br>For this form factor, 9-11" screens, having HD playback capabilities is pretty much all you need (but really only if the computer has HDMI out).
