'8-bit Xmas' breathes new life into your 'Bah! Humbug!' NES
Is there still room in your heart for eight more unassuming bits of Xmas? We hoped you'd say yes. See, 8-bit Xmas 2009 is an all-new NES cart full of festive LEDs and an original multiplayer snowball fight NES game. It sells for $43, but for $5 more you can get a personalized title screen -- which seems like a relatively cheap fulfillment of that decades long dream of yours to have your name up in pixelated lights on the home console that defined the home console. The cart should be compatible with all real NES systems and hopefully many fake ones, and while it can't help you forgive your Aunt Samantha for giving you that Sudoku quilt, it might just do the insignificant task of teaching you the true meaning of Xmas.

what type of NES is DAT

when will the AVGN review this?
@yode
It's the NES-101 (aka top loader).
@NAME Actually it's an NES-101, the PS3 slim of it's day. If you wanted a slightly sleeker, smaller NES that only read cartridges 10% of the time, this was the console for you.
@Shaun Ryan
Compared to the 3% of the original.
Quick! Blow on the cartridge!
@Shaun Ryan
I would think that with a top loader it would have been better than the original. That is the one thing I really hated about NES games, just to play one was a pain in the ass.
@W31RD0
I own this model NES and it's great compared to the originals. Loads my carts pretty consistently and I've never had any sort of problems with it.
@yode
Yick, the top-loader NES was notorious for veritcal lines in it's video output. No bueno.
It will sell great for xmas.....1 week ago
@Joeyjoejoe Shabadoo -- It'll be on their next Christmas Gift Guide they publish next week. Stay tuned!
Does player 2 experience a fiery combustion when player 1 hits him with a snowball?
happy new year!
Anyone know where I can download the rom? ;)

"the home console that defined the home console."
Somebody has never heard of the Atari 2600
Beautiful.
And as with everything else at RetroZone, it's overpriced.
Is it so hard to write out "Christmas", you guys?
@FallenArms3 8 bits, gotta save memory
@FallenArms3
Things are always better when they are Xtreme!
@FallenArms3
That would lend allegiance to Jeebus. Statistically most techies are agnostic or atheist.
@W31RD0 Oh well, doesn't hurt to try.
I'll wait for the Sega Master System version.
Are there developers still working on that platform? Why?
Is it me or has the NES release schedule really sank over the last 20 years?
Cool cool. Too bad Christmas is over though...
HAPPY NEW YEARS!
I have an NES2 right here... Official, just like the one in the screen, and a bone controller.... need cartridge... need cheaper version of it..
the Atari 2600 didn't define the home console?
I have to admit to ordering one. The customized menu text makes it a good keepsake for my wife and I, since we are both gamers. I plan on dumping the ROM when it gets here and putting the cartridge away with the NES.
