For my bedside table, I want this:

1) full-featured alarm clock, easily toggled on/off/programmed
2) snooze and SLEEP TIMER
3) FULL-ACCESS, unfettered, non-"best of" Internet Radio
4) Touch-screen
5) Responsive touch display with many degrees of brightness control
6) full-range volume, with continuous adjustment (no huge jumps)
7) very wide viewing angle, so no contrast inversions from up/down/l/r
8) standard on-board search by genre/country/language
9) a simple on-line interface for adding custom streams
10) support for AAC+ (some stations only stream this)
11) FULL RSS, track/title feeds of streams
12) a hardware volume knob
13) dedicated sound soother channels
14) on-line firmware updates from the radio
15) iPhone dock built-in
16) a nice remote to supplement (not replace!) on-screen controls

If any of these players can do the above (all the above), then I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Still waiting for THE ONE, who gets it.

Here's who does not have the above and are therefore unacceptable:
1) Logitech's Squeezebox (any of them), incl. Radio
2) Sony Dash (remains to be seen, but given the Chumby, unlikely)
3) HP DreamScreen
4) VTech IS9181 (although an excellent internet radio; next model?)
5) PURE's offerings
6) REVO (although they come very close!! Perhaps the next "Ikon"?)
7) Chumby, obviously. It's a horrible mess!!
8) Grace Audio, and or any of the Reciva-based radios of the past.

Notice I didn't mention Facebook, Pandora, Sirius, etc...? My iPhone takes care of those, better than any of these would.

Everyone seems to raise Pandora (or LastFM, or Slacker, or Rhapsody, etc...) up at the expense of the far, far, FAR more important internet radio. In mind, that's so ass-backwards.

David
