Vizio sets have the same features as LG or Sony brand sets, but at a fraction of the cost. The only thing brands like Sony/LG have on Vizio when it comes to HDTVs is picture quality. The picture quality of a similarly spec'd Vizio HDTV, won't beat a Sony Bravia or LG HDTV, but just because that is so, doesn't mean picture quality on Vizio sets suck. Sure, a Vizio set won't win a picture quality of the year award, but they still look damn good nevertheless. And unless you have something like a Bravia to compare it to ( constantly), you won't be able to tell the difference.

Cyrs

Comments on LG presents 39 new LCD HDTVs, most with NetCast, some with 3D

@Cyrs

Kinda, but not really. Vizio (and LG) for that matter use subpar ways to get at the kind of things Samsung and Sony are doing with their sets.

Take 240Hz for example. Samsung and Sony use 240Hz panels that show 240 different (albiet interpolated) images per second. Vizio (and Toshiba, and LG) use "240 Hz" which is really a panel showing 120 different images with black frames in between (called scanning backlight). Put a Samsung/Sony 240Hz next to a Vizio 240Hz and the Vizio will get blown out of the water on fast moving content that has historically been a problem for LCDs.

I'm not saying they're bad sets, I'm just saying they aren't near the quality of higher end sets.

Of course, then again, price is king. Most people want the biggest for the cheapest and can't be bothered making sure they're actually getting quality.

I'm interested to see how LG does "480Hz". Maybe they've finally got 240Hz without a scanning backlight and I'll be pleasantly surprised with their implementation of 480Hz.

Magness

Comments on LG presents 39 new LCD HDTVs, most with NetCast, some with 3D

Dude, who is this Ben Drawbaugh guy?
