If I'm not mistaken, you can plug it into your cable box's output, and it has an IR blaster that can change the channels. All it requires is an internet connection.

It connects to your STB via USB and then to your network via wifi or ethernet. Also when they do finally update firmware software and it breaks your Slingbox Solo.
