Sony NW-A845 Walkman slips into European hands, too thin to be noticed
There's an old saying that the Japanese keep the best to themselves, but not this time. Sony's finally man enough to let go of their "slimmest ever Walkman," the NW-A845, to our European cousins. Apart from the obvious (and ever-so-useful) fresh injection of Latin-based languages, we're not seeing much difference with the almighty Japanese version (NW-A840) from September: 7.2mm thin, 2.8-inch of OLED goodness, 29 hours of marathon listening and premium EX earphones. Unlike the buffet in Japan though, there'll only be one "Falcon Black" 16GB model of unknown price for Europe, available for grabs in February.

Seems like a good update to a good reliable music workhorse.
Disney STILL hasn't sued them for copyright infringement?

Okay, that didn't paste well at all. Stupid ASCII art.
Looks nice. I've got a $50 walkman mp3 player that I prefer over my iPod. Small, syncs natively with WMP, has good sound and the battery life is great, can go days without needing a charge.
@Johnny5
I just use my cell phone. Hey, it's already in my pocket!
@Smart People Play Tuba .... and shorten it's already "barely enough" battery life? No thanks.
I'll take it immediately for 199€
@(Unverified) ohh.. men.. sorry to tell it is 199.99€
will you pay the extra .99€?
@Dking7
For that money you can get a phone with a 16GB microSD card that plays music amongst other things...
I can understand why someone would buy a dedicated camera instead of using the one on the phone. PMPs on the other hand, seem to be perfectly replaceable by phones, unless you're very picky about certain features.
@Endadget I suppose if you were as passionate about sound quality as some are about photo quality then you'd buy the right tool for the job... I have a Walkman (the one with Bluetooth - not that I use the feature) and the sound quality, to my ears, is far nicer than the sound that came from my old Walkman phone or my current HTC Hero.
I have a nice camera as well ;)
@Endadget
If your MP3 player runs out of battery halfway through the day, mild annoyance.
Phone battery? Major problem. The only solution is to either carry an emergency charger, or spare battery, both of which are bulkier than this walkman.
16 Gigs is a bit of a letdown. I'd pick it up for 120 Euros, though the 200 price range seems more realistic.
i want this.
why can't anyone other than apple release a solid mp3 player with 64GB internal storage?
@willowtwf
Well, Sony can, but only in Japan.
@willowtwf
Exactly!
I have been waiting a long time for the A847 to hit the UK/Europe... now only to find out they are giving us a 16GB Walkman. We have lots of those already. There is just no choice. I have ~40GB of MP3's and all offerings by Sony and Creative etc are 32GB max.
How difficult is it for Sony to shift a 64GB player out of Japan, seemingly impossible!
@willowtwf
Seriously man, I too am pissed off. It is as if 16gb is the new 640kb of RAM which no player dares to surpass. It's been over 1.5 years since the 16gb limit!
@willowtwf: you're not alone in getting frustrated at this.
Hopefully though, this will be a precursor to the introduction of the 64GB model.
How has no one said "that's what she said" yet? I'm very disappointed in you Engadget readers.
@MJGAMER 1991 XBL
that's what she said
i want the 32gb to come to canada. i hate how unlikely it is that this will come true in a reasonable amount of time. this thing looks awesome and i need to replace my current walkman. i was considered importing a zune hd but held out because of this and the fact it has buttons and comes with sick headphones. hurry up sony. ive been waiting since it was announced for japan in september.
Yet another 16GB player....how clever of Sony, with all the US/EU people dying to get their hands on the A840.........
they could AT LEAST release the 32GB version
