Glossy screens are generally cheaper to make and have a better contrast ratio than matte screens. Matte screens on the other hand typically have a better color gamut and are viewable in brighter conditions. They also however are more expensive to produce. So it becomes a choice of the manufacturer to decide which technology to invest in because they are going to go with the technology that the majority of their consumers are going to use. I personally prefer matte screens myself and I had to have my MacBool Pro that I used custom ordered in order to get a matte screen, with some makers that is simply not an option.

Joe

Comments on FIC outs Pineview-boasting SVE00 netbook

@Information Central On paper, the FIC SVE00 netbook loos pretty much like any other recent model. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, a 10.1 inch. 1024 x 600 pixel display. 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and the usual array of ports. It comes with a 3 cell, 4 hour battery and optional Bluetooth, WiMax, and 3.5G connections. The bezel, as others have already pointed out is awful, but then add to that the bezel around the keyboard area, necessary because they have a smaller lid than a base... so with the large base you don't even get a bigger keyboard.
