It used to be outright horrible. I almost had a change of heart, and then they released 1.3.5... Sure, there is room for improvement, but now I love this little device as never before.

B.S.

Comments on Palm Pre Plus (and Pixi Plus) review

@Thinker
so is the reviewer wrong with his "doesnt last an afternoon" comments? (Talking as a Sprint Pre owner)

Sometimes the phone drains incredibly fast. Sometimes it's good enough. I usually need to charge my phone after 10-20 hours. Depending on how heavy my use is. On an average day I say I charge it after 12-14 hours and have like 20-30% left. Then again I'm more of a light-moderate user (I text far more than I talk on the phone).

Some things drain the battery very quickly. Sprint Navigation is one of them. Don't expect to be able to use Sprint Navigation for over 5 hours straight, even on a full charge. Right now, after 7.5 hours I have 89% battery left, but I BARELY touched my phone today.

As for the phone itself, as time goes on the more and more I like it. It's getting better by leaps and bounds with each major OS update (at first, webOS kind of sucked, now it's respectable) and the lack of quality apps is really starting to not matter. I find that to be true in general. The longer you have your phone, the less you care about apps since you realize that 95% of apps out there are unnecessary trash. I still think the iPhone OS runs much smoother and I do miss some of the iPhone games (and I have a gut feeling that the iPhone's battery lasts much longer). But even then, I think I'm more than happy with my Pre. I've played with a Nexus One a bit too and I found out that yeah, I definitely prefer webOS to Android, though I think Android's potential is still off the charts.

spacemanspork

Comments on Palm Pre Plus (and Pixi Plus) review

@Gunjin

Most of the response provided by spacemanspork on the battery life of the Palm Pre is quite accurate. But I need to provide some additional information and correct a few things he said.

First off, the battery life on the Palm Pre is not shaky at all. Battery usage is based upon the features of the phone you are using. Accessing the Internet consumes more power, which I estimate will cause the battery to last for about 8 hours of continuous usage from a full charge. But just playing music will last much longer, about 20 hours of continuous playing. Talking on the phone should last longer than 8 hours (who talks that long?) since the screen is turned off while you are talking. Overall, you should go up to two days between charges if you are doing moderate amounts of all of these things (Internet, Talk, and Music). But with more heavy usage, you will need to charge your phone once a day. Once I charge my phone at night, I can now go through the entire day knowing that my battery will last the full day.

The iPhone 3GS, whose battery you cannot replace, is rated to last “up to 5 hours” for Internet usage and up to 5 hours of talk time. So the battery performance of the Palm Pre smart phone holds up very well to the competition. Palm states that webOS 1.4 which will be released next month (Feb. 2010) for your phone, will further increase batter life greatly. And you can also replace the battery in the Palm Pre for a higher capacity battery.

Andrew Augustine

Comments on Palm Pre Plus (and Pixi Plus) review

@spacemanspork

Beat this: A Samsung Blackjack 1st gen needs charging every night. 10-12 hours of awfulness.
