Failed in what? What did they fail to do, make it look nice?

Apple will succeed in doing one thing and one thing only, creating an ecosystem for it. Possibly porting the apps from the iPhoneOS and creating a conjuction with outside media such as e-readers. That's all I see happening for it, HOWEVER I don't know whether that's going to happen, and I sure as hell know you don't. Hey, you can always sell it on eBay for a few bucks less than you paid for it if it sucks.

But if it does 3G data I won't buy one. I'm not interested in paying a monthly bill. I'm afraid that if 3G connectivity is just an add-on "if you want to use it" kind of feature, it will evolve into a "have to have it" in future software revs.

I'm interested in seeing Apple's take on the tablet; frankly it's almost certain to be a game changer, even if the tablet market never goes anywhere. It would be cool to play with a new toy. You've never seen the thing, dont know if it's 100% real.

Rumors + sight unseen =/= "tech success story of the year".

If you dislike people that just brush it off, then dont portray the opposite extreme by proclaiming it God.

Oh, and what did MS fail at? I'm not saying the iPhone didn't/isn't doing well (that would pretty much be flamming, much like you bringing Android into this). I'm saying that the tablet won't live up to expectations (although, I'm sure it will sell very well).

The iPhone blew everyone away when it came out, because no one knew it was coming and it was (undeniably) groundbreaking at the time. IT neeeeds to have a stylus. As I see it, the student demographic is the largest most obvious market segment where this device makes perfect sense; it would be perfect for note taking and textbook reading/annotating. If students start buying these up, much like what happened with the iPod and iPhone it will become fashionable and trendy, and consumption will expand to the general population.

A device that clearly served as the design inspiration for both the iPhone and (most likely) Apple's 'New Creation'.

This iSlate/iPad/iTablet can be any number of things, but when it boils down to it, the concept is really little more than a scaled down version of the 2003 Hp/Compaq TC1XXX featuring an OS dumbed down so as to be approachable to those of the lowest technological aptitude.
