Haha, well I'm as excited as anyone to see the mystery tablet, but the OS revisions are something done to improve a product I actually own and use.

That said, I will love it if Apple releases an amazing interface for larger touch screens. Most people think a "big iPhone" is a bad idea, but I really can't see the issue with a touch device that takes a few core computing activities and does them extremely well while ditching the rest. Besides a few things I use for work, even when I look at my own computer I can pretty much reduce all my activity into probably about 3 "apps". How is it an awkward size? It's about the same size as most books, only lighter. Of course it doesn't have a keyboard (it's a tablet!), and if it's on-screen keyboard is a larger, even easier to use version of the iPhone's (which is already pretty good), it will work fine. It's not meant to rival phones or even be a phone; it's meant for media and internet uses.

It's great for college students, the professional world, and even the layman for many reasons. And don't forget, what Apple does best is create products that you never even knew you wanted or needed, market them well, and make you feel alienated for not having one. UMPC has keyboards like this. The big complaint? The keyboard was too big and blocked a lot of the screen.

The whole "full featured-OS's are the reasons tables fail" is ridiculous.

The REAL reason why tablets/slates have such low sales is because they often cost higher their laptop counterparts, whilest not having a keyboard, or are an ergonomic nightmare. The constant taunt of some people is that tablets have very low sales. I can assure you it's because, like the smartphones before the iPhone, people only bought the table because they really needed them or required them for work. The rest bought laptops.

The real question is if Apple can take this product out of the small userbase status and make them popular, like it has with mp3 players, or smartphones. With the amount of buzz being generated, I'm guessing they will do it. But that doesnt make me want a dumbed down OS over Win 7 or OSX any less.

What more disturbing to me, is that people are mistaking this move to modularized applications is cloud computing. And in a way it is.
