The thing that makes me think this the most, is the clock app that comes loaded on the Nexus One. It really works best in landscape mode, and works as a nice alarm clock, especially when dimmed (OLEDs are awesome for that). The thing is, with the MicroUSB on the bottom, and the audio jack on the top, a horizontal dock would be challenging unless it is wireless. Think you're probably wrong there..

The Nexus does have three gold connectors on the base, the function of which is currently not known. They could easily be used as an audio connection of some sort.

Induction charging would be of no value in a vertically oriented cradle. By the time you've sat the thing in there, the best way to hold it still is to put something through the usb jack. It would also require swapping out the battery for one with induction circuitry. That reduces life, and increases cost.

The alarm clock app looks just fine vertically too.
