Carried out a ping test in NYC the other day using their data card and it reached 600ms, average being 300ms. Speeds barely burst over 2 meg.

Strange considering all of their TV oriented ads mention a better 3G experience, both visually and verbally. Simply not true. You know how, yesterday the Engadget blogsite was really slow because the iPad announcement had traffic up like 200%?

Yeah, that's what ATT networks enjoy every single day.

It's because the iPhone is so damn popular that ATT networks seem so inadequate.

So its a quality problem to have. You could have the Pre on some tiny network no one cares about and I'm sure the coverage is great.

But New Yorkers and the 'Libs' in San Fran love their Unicorn Tears. You seem to be one of the only people on this blog to understand that AT&T's data network is stressed beyond comprehension

I'm pretty sure the data increase of over 4000% is a very large number no matter how you put it.

No one's network could of survived that much data increase. I've complained about the excessive Apple posts in the past too (and do think the ipad articles were a few too many), but that "how would you change..." article is fairly common for all products.

Admittedly, they're posted sooner for Apple products than others, but name 1 device that created such a firestorm of talk in the last 6 months as much as the ipad did last night? I mean kids who assume that SMS lingo is the breadth and depth of the english language were all discussing the ipad on twitter. CNN, CNBC news tickers had ipad updates. Like it or not, Apple products create hype.

Of course, I have no idea what engadget hopes to accomplish with "how would you change" posts. They all turn into flamewars, never is a consensus, and engadget won't post a follow up. What gives fellas?

As a side, as underwhelmed I am with ipad, I think the least discussed and most significant announcement yesterday was the debut of the A4 chip - I think that's something people aren't talking about enough

My thoughts exactly. This could mean anything or nothing. I think that they don't want anyone to know just how low their performance and goals are.

I know that for me, I still drop calls in my home in LA almost every single call (unless I stand in a specific corner of the house) even thought it says I have good coverage!

I totally agree and I think that's my biggest gripe. Its like stealing customers money when you don't provide the service. Yuo're paying a PHONE company that doesn't give you great PHONE service. Im with ATT and i get more drop calls (at least 20) then girls in a year. Most occasions i get a one-ringer and straight to the voice mail. My friends bitch at me because im ignoring them. Before ATT, it was T-mobile and i never had a single dropped call (seriously). Dont get me started on 3G. I get 3G less than half the day but i pay an extra $30 a month for the service. Amen to that. ATT works great here in Austin (except downtown during the music festivals... then all the cell phones go down). Last August, I went to SanFrancisco... worked just fine there as well.

Its OK to complain if it isn't working for you, but I get tired of reading comments from people who have read that ATT sucks and then regurgetated that here without ever having had an issue.
