It says "introduced" prominently. As Rick Goodman stated, they have just been unveiled - it sometimes takes a while to get them incorporated into an already tight laptop environment. If the bus is at all different, or the cooling profile is unlike previous discrete cards that current laptop models are built to use, then there's a good degree of redesigning and reorganizing that can be required before a laptop using the new stuff is ready for release to the public (and mass production).

Vrmithrax

Comments on Alienware's Core i7-equipped M15x and M17x now available to order

I think I'd rather get a Macbook.

Preston

Comments on Alienware's Core i7-equipped M15x and M17x now available to order

The keyboard is kindof cool, but... why do Alienware computers always have to be so gaudy? ugh. I am writing this on a fresh M15x having used a 1710 XPS for three years happily. No I don't work for Dell before you ask !

Using a Core i7 820, 500Gb7200, 6Gb, WIn7U64, GTX240, FullHD. It cost a bomb however the XPS proved to be a good machine over three years and I do a lot of hi-res work. No gaming but need heavy travel and big CPU.

The 2/4Gb is in Single channel mode ! Order 4Gb or 8Gb (not from Dell whos prices for RAM exceed even Apples !)
The keyboard bounces a bit, trackpad is a bit sub-premium but usable.
For a 15" machine it has the same footprint as my old 17" XPS
It weighs more than my old XPS1710. Big sod !
Dell EU don't offer an SSD - get a life ! Now i have to prize my new machine open and fit an Indilinx based SSD you muppets.
Where's the Blueray option ? I had it on my 36 month old XPS1710 ?

Sounds bad right - Hell no. It is a stunner. You will have to prize it from my clammy dead hands if you want it. Stunning build quality, no bloatware, Intel ICH drivers already loaded, Loaded all my Kaspersky Office 2010, Adobe CS4, RMTS and SP and it is still hammering away without a drop in performance. Outstanding.

You could get the same P55 platform Core i7 820 from other vendors but if you are going to buy this now it will still be expensive and the metal chassis on this bad boy will allow you to keep it looking good for the three years it takes to pay for it. As long as you wipe off the fingerprints it attracts.

No overheating problems, fans not running up, ran Prime 95 without a glitch for 6 hours (fans came on slow then) and it seems smooth.

Nice work Alienware/Dell - its expensive, it MUST have SSD and BR but I have screwdrivers......and I rate it highly.

owner

Comments on Alienware's Core i7-equipped M15x and M17x now available to order

why does this laptop have Windows Vista?

babydill
