Usually the limiting factor are cost and size.  Additional antenna mean additional are which could have changed the size of the unit. Because the major players don't share the same frequencies and technology, you can't really benefit from competition.  This is just like being able to buy various blackberries on multiple carriers, just a different sales point. You do realize that Cell Phone companies pay a lot less then you do and yet they sell MSRP. Profit Margins for companies like HTC are low because most of their sales are through other companies through which they can not negotiate one-sided contracts like Apple can.
