As much as the iPad underwhelmed people, this is worse on just about all accounts shy of flash and \textit{maybe} screen/res if you want to argue that just slapping on an extra inch or so of pixels to the length is a good thing (but it certainly screws with portability). Windows runs about 99% of all tablets, and UMPCs, and heck even touch screen devices of all types.

The iPad really couldn't do 90% of a casual user's task, because even the most casual user - and I'm using my mom as a baseline here - will frequently use USB devices (camera containing pictures of grandkids mostly, which is possible but requires an accessory) and flash. If Flash was to be ported to the iPad and iPhone it would only be usable for video. With games and more advanced content, you would be out of luck, as key strokes and mouse points don't translate well into touch based gestures and then the developers would have to recode their games and applications - where they might as well choose the App Store platform.

Youtube is supported on the iPad itself and Vimeo furthermore just announced HTML5 support - would you like to see Engadget's Flash banners too?

Before I get flammed, I would like to point out I'm not ignoring its flaws - it definitely got some. Multi-tasking really should be a no-brainer on a device this big, I'm pretty confident we will see multi-tasking support in OS 4.0.

To sum up, Flash is not that big of a deal even though you might think.

The internet at large isn't ready for multi-touch. The thought process that a lack of flash = a lack of annoying banners is a very myopic view. If html5 becomes widely used(hell standardized) and supplants flash, I bet you anything that there will be just as many annoying html5 ads bogging down your processor. But that assumes that Flash will die off, which it won't. HTML5 is not a silver bullet.
