But if they would somehow implement it with some durable&light screen protector, they they are definitiely on a good way.

Anyway - the only problem i got with samsung phones is their lack of operating system. Yes, there are some widgets etc., but nothing to compare to iPhone, Android or even the stupid pocket pc or symbian. Usually, you have something like this:
[Scratch-resistant glass layer]
[Sensing Layer/Digitizer]
[Glass Backing, about 1-2mm thick]
[Empty space/Glue]
[Glass front of LCD]
[Liquid crystal layer]
[Backing glass of LCD]
[Lamp]

An amoled display already gets rid of the front glass cover of the LCD because the LEDS are sprayed on top of the backing substrate and all you need is a thin plastic layer to protect them. This advancement would further reduce a layer between the digitizer and the plastic front of the AMOLED leaving the digitizer resting right on top of the AMOLED plastic.
When you crack open a capacitive touchscreen, you'll notice that there's a thick layer of what seems to be nothing but glass, but that you know is not the LCD, that layer, along with then glue of nothing in between that and the top of the LCD glass (because LCD's have to be glass enclosed, no exceptions) is what we'd see gone.
Progress indeed, but there's ofcourse the concern of AMOLED's poor performance on direct sunlight. I'll say it again, how about revisiting transflective backings for AMOLEDS.
