Actually, from what I've heard, all other functions of the phone continue to work, EVEN with this battery in. It's weird, I know. I, too, assumed that putting a thick battery on a thin device would cause all other features to stop functioning. But it still boots up, plays videos and music, goes on the internet, and even makes phone calls! But wait, it gets even weirder! It seems like the battery life increases as well! I currently use a Nokia N800 internet tablet with its amazing kickstand around the house for general web surfing and listening to/ watching audio and video podcasts. But I know it will get to the stage when the device will die.
