Professionalism (and Engadget norms) dictates that sources be explicitly cited unless the info is "public knowledge", though I realize "major" news reporters often do not give their sources. In my English classes in college, I could have been instantly failed for not citing a source (for "plagiarism," even if I did mention the general source without giving the specific location), so it stands out to me. I was regularly marked off for simply having the citation not exactly in the form the professor wanted, a missing comma or such, which was worse when we were given a protocol formula and no examples...
